The excitement continues when families cast away to Never Land where Jake and his Yo Ho pirate friends Izzy and Cubby are in a race against time to locate a mysterious treasure-filled volcano. Danger, thrills and adventure lurk around every turn when our swashbuckling friends battle Captain Hook for the ultimate prize. Peter Pan makes a special appearance, aiding the team in their heroic quest, and with the help of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust, Jake and his crew fly above the stage in their journey.

Always let your conscience be your guide.Pinocchio,
It’s true. Some things in life are free! The 9th annual CIAA comes to the city of Charlotte next week on February 25th through March 1st. Female and male student-athletes from 12 different institutions will play harder than ever before in hopes to move up to the NCAA Division II tournament.
Yes, I live in Charlotte, Yes my son plays and attends a HBCU. Yes we enjoy to his game and being his personal pep squad. But sadly I must admit, I will not be at any of the CIAA games. BUT I will have my children at the FREE family events.
But first, let me give you a little history of the CIAA. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association was founded in 1912 on the campus of Hampton Institute. Its founders were Allen Washington and C.H. Williams of Hampton Institute; Ernest J. Marshall of Howard University; George Johnson of Lincoln University, PA ; W.E. Atkins, Charles Frasher and H.P. Hargrave of Shaw University; and J.W. Barco and J.W. Pierce of Virginia Union University.
Now it is the oldest African-American athletic conference in the United States. mostly consisting of historically black colleges and universities. Recent addition Chowan University is the first non-HBCU to play in the conference. Conference teams participate in the NCAA‘s Division II. Teams in the conference are mostly from North Carolina and Virginia, though there is one each fromPennsylvania and Maryland. The CIAA is divided into Northern and Southern Divisions in all of the sports except track and field/cross country and baseball, and sponsors 16 annual championships.
Can you say big dollars for the QC?! There is talk about it leaving next year. At stake is one of the city’s biggest tourism events, estimated to create more than $40 million in economic impact. It may end up in Raleigh, Atlanta, Greensboro, Washington D.C., Brooklyn, N.Y. and Baltimore…who knows.
I plan to be at Hampton University watching my son play. But if you’re gonna be here. Here’s a few free event to enjoy.

Many people find it weird that we prohibit our babies to eat meat until they are at least two years old. We figure that it’s a fair time to give their digestive system time to strengthen. As they get older they are free to eat as they choose*. Well within our dietary guidelines. Our family eats no red meat. My college student-athlete son and one of my daughters like steak. So they will purchase it while away from home. Our baby girl avoids anything that has a mom or organs. She just started this. Not sure how long it will last though. One of my younger sons will not eat fish. Our diet is all over the place. The big question is can we all convert to Vegan/vegetarianism? I think we could. After all, it’s the flavor and texture that we want. That can be fulfilled with a plant based diet. So the journey begins! We explore food every chance we get!
Try This- It’s yummy! Mix chili peppers, sea salt, and lime- it’s PERFECT over everything.
After so much research, we decided to try a vegan party. It would be hosted during the sweetest month and called Vegan Family Valentine;s Day Party.
It was designed to give children an opportunity to celebrate Valentines Day AND enjoy a discovery of delicious plant-based products.
WE Did It! It happened! Our sponsor for this party was Monkey Joes and VegFund.
VegFund empowers vegan activists worldwide by funding and supporting outreach activities that inspire people to choose and maintain a vegan lifestyle.
So Saturday we arrived at Monkey Joes. The set up was very eye appealing. By the time we were set up, we had a line waiting to see what we brought to share. It was clear the people LOVE to eat! We offered ToFurkey and cheese wraps with Veganaise and they loved it. The cupcakes were another big time pleaser for the kids. They had no idea eggs were omitted. Even the fruit kabobs was a hit! We had dipping cups of Almond Breeze yogurt- another hit! I guess the biggest surprise was the fruit water. I still think it was the packaging that sold it! Handing the parents/guardians the accompanying literature was too easy. We made it bright, kid friendly and an easy read.
What did it say? We’ll it started with the fact that children raised on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes grow up to be slimmer and healthier and even live longer than their meat-eating friends. Then ended with reasons not to eat your pet.
Our goal is to continue to encouraging our daughter’s veganism , make vegan eating fun and to share this vegan experience with our community each year. ! Can’t wait till our next sampling party.
I hate that I am sharing this video. They or just one of many out there that practice this style of food prep. Ok so I love their fries…. (Sue me! I’m working on that as well) But this is what’s happening to get you your burger. It’s Mighty Cruel
I tell ya, parenting isn’t what I thought it was gonna be. Do I work and be neglectful* to pursue my own selfish aspirations? Or day in and day out change diapers, home school, cook gmo free for picky palates, have bed time wars? Kids fight, they ask for your last dollar, they grow up & have a mind of their own. They get loads of tattoos. The list goes on and on. Call it a growing trend or extended postpartum, here’s what other moms share:
I take her to concerts and theaters, stay up nights when she’s sick, got her into good school, enrichment activities, teach her to read, write, cook, clean…I smile, and I hug and kiss, and tell her I love her – it’s never sincere!
Every day-week-month just deeper and deeper into faking, lying, swallowing my real emotions…getting stomach cramps and migraines from all this faking, but it’s still 13 more years, until she’s at least 18, and I can retire from this crap. Wish someone warned me before I had a kid
********************
I lost it tonight after dressing my child for the 4th time after she’s made herself naked, tripped over about 15 toys I had just picked up and got hit in the face with something she threw and said “weeeee” (it accidentally hit me). Oh and the dressing thing is the worst, “me do it”….ok you do it…I try to help her a couple times then after being pushed away and scolded “me do it” for the 10th time, I walk away… She screams “no mommy do it!!!” Ugh!!! What part of this is enjoyable? I know women spend lots of money to get pregnant but ladies, this is not fun! I hate play dates and not to mention, other people’s kids! I don’t even like kids!! I just had to get that out because I’m totally losing who I am and who I was. I lost my sexiness, playfulness and being calm. I’m a tightly wound, frumpy, angry person! Can anyone relate?? Or am alone? Before anyone says I need therapy or antidepressants, I’m only like this when I’m with my child. When I go to work, out with friends or just my hubby, I’m alive again!!! But obviously that’s not life anymore and that makes me sad 😦
********************
I am a sahm and I really don’t like it. I count the days until my kids go back to school. My kids are under 10 and fight all the time. It really puts a burden on my marriage. I should be thankful that my husband provides for us and makes enough money for me to be able to stay home, but I would rather work outside of the house.”
My mother never took more than a single hour or two for herself out of an entire week. She was run ragged, stressed to the max. I wish I could go back in time and tell my mother, how special she is; that she needs to take care of herself.” If you are getting overwhelmed, try one of these four tips:
1.If you can’t wait till they get older, go on a get a job. Make sure it’s a good one with benefits, and then you file for child support (if you need it) to help you support your child. When you want to go out and enjoy your life, you find a babysitter, do you know why? Because that is what adults do.
2. Give the baby up for adoption. There are some people who do not need to have children or been on the pill and made your man use a condom. There are so many women dying to have children and can’t have children of their own, that would gladly give up their life for that baby.
3. Remember that they are not babies forever. In a few years you will have someone that can do a lot of the work all by himself. Just get to that point, ok. It goes by a lot quicker than you think. It is really important to start training your kids to be independent and self sufficient, and instead of you resolving their disputes force them to do so before they get 5. Hurry now!
4. Find support. All moms need time outs! May it be with a great book, a friend at the movies, my group of QCSAHM,(great women that supported each other.)
I think many people underestimate how difficult being a parent can be, and they also overestimate how rewarding the experience of raising a child will be. Perhaps if we didn’t set unrealistic expectations about these parts of our lives, and if we felt free to talk about negative experiences as well as positive, we could enjoy all of them more.
As my children grow into adulthood, I have to be ready for them to tell me how I may have hurt them. I need to be open enough to learn about who I am through their eyes. As they mature I must as well. Just as I demand their respect, I also need to show it. And part of that is taking their understanding of me seriously. To be flexible enough to face the truth of my impact on them, and realize that maybe at times I need to reexamine my mothering. But not because I feel insecure about some trend in parenting I think I should be implementing — but because of real life moments. I know there are flaws in my mothering, of course there are, but I can’t fear or deny them. I don’t have the ridiculous expectation of doing everything right. My only goal is to raise a few people I want to be friends with for the rest of my life, and who feels the same about me.
I feel for moms in a situation like this. I just hope those moms get help as soon as they can.
Sometimes when I allow myself to start decorating for a pity party, friends like Margot pop in and remind me why I can’t slow down or quit! She was talking about me and here’s what she said.
When I heard Kelly and Michael introduce this contest (The Unstoppable Mom Contest ) on LIVE, the first thing that came to mind was I had to contact Kelle Perkins, as she is the original Unstoppable Mom!! I know a lot of really great mothers, doing wonderful things, but Kelle is THE Unstoppable Mom! She is creative, intuitive, caring, smart, and clever and effortlessly manages a household of seven children (and a husband!) ranging in age from 16 years to twenty months and homeschools everyone except the baby!
There is NOTHING that she can’t do and she welcomes a challenge and is very passionate/persistent in everything she does and makes it all look so effortless.
Kelle is organized and schedules out her day to give the necessary attention to the children’s academics, as well as managing her home and giving back to the community. In addition, to the seven children currently at home, has a 21 year old son, who is on a basketball scholarship for Hampton University, and the family attends as many games as they can and form a cheering section all of their own, inviting many friends and relatives to join them. I don’t even know where to start, in describing this delightful, energetic, organized, loving, proud, engaging and unstoppable Mom. Kelle received her AA Degree in Travel and Tourism and then a BA Degree from Johnson and Wales, majoring in Hospitality. She credits much of her success to the education she received at Johnson and Wales, as she is able to make her education applicable to her family life and to an organization she founded-The Queen City Stay At Home Mom’s!! This organization was developed as many mothers were asking her “How to and How do you do” questions about being a mother ie. how do you breast feed and on and on, thus a niche was created and she has filled it beautifully, and expanded upon this, now also being a Doula and educating expectant mothers and carrying on with this education to the actual birth and beyond.
I love this!
This 38 year old mother is a networking pro and loves the atmosphere of “bringing something to the table” with everything she does. In this particular situation, she has restaurants ready to give the new parents a wonderful free dinner at home after each birth, babysitters on hand to help with younger siblings, and is “on call” to help with any/all questions from now on!!. In becoming a Doula, Kelle has shared her passion with her daughters, and 14 year old Cassie, is becoming a little entrepreneur just like her mother! She started a cookie company called “Cassie’s Sweetz.” This is no ordinary cookie company though, as it is geared toward the lactating woman, who is either having trouble with her milk coming in or wants to make sure she keeps her ability to lactate.
Cassie, with the with the help of her innovative mother, developed these cookies from doing much research into healthy ingredients that would lend itself to this purpose and then took it one step further to finding these ingredients at a reasonable cost and incorporating them into a delicious, nutritious cookie!! She also employs a very “green” mentality and has a motto of recycle, reduce and reuse; she recycles containers, such as oatmeal containers and decorates them very whimsically, and them fills them with her homemade cookies and ships them off to her customers.
My number 8 and 9 learning how to feed themselves= Priceless!
Kelle has a definite vision for her children; she wants them to demonstrate character, manners, independence, and good nutrition, along with empowering and educating them in so many ways, and it’s obvious to all that she is bringing up very success oriented, wonderful children. Kelle home schools the children in the mornings and then the afternoons are spent gardening, where they grow much of their own vegetable and have enough to share with others, organizing cooking classes with her mom’s group, or being servants to the community and volunteering. One of the family’s favorites is working at Loaves and Fishes, a local soup kitchen. She feels that being a well-rounded individual is most important so finds creative ways to inexpensively expose her children to the arts, whether it be a play at a local university; several of the younger boys are a ball boys for UNC-Charlotte, which gives them a sense of responsibility and enables the family to have a family gathering on the house!
In 2005, Kelle lost 11 year old Mya, (Yes, a mother to nine children!) to an auto immune disease. From the initial diagnosis to her death it was only a few months. Kelle spoke at Mya’s wake and even though she was a grieving mother, she wanted to keep this time upbeat, positive and a testament to the wonderful wit this child had, instead of burying her head in the sand and wishing her pain and anguish would go away. She has great faith in God and knew that she had to trust him and keep on going for her family’s survival.
This loss, made her question whether this death was because of something environmental, so in 2013 after much research, she joined MomsRising, and participated in the Stroller Brigade to make a presentation to Congress about reforming the laws on toxins. Kelle also is busy doing product reviews for companies and then passes on the product info and giveaways to her Queen City Stay at Home Moms. An example of this is her work with local supermarkets, ie. Earth Fare, as they are exemplary in supporting education for children’s wellness and health.
She also created and coordinates the annual Total Children’s Wellness Fair and does this solely through her networking contacts/businesses. This energetic and unstoppable mom lives in Charlotte, NC with her beautiful family and is married to Roger, a US veteran, who is currently attending college, so there is never a dull moment in the Pressley-Perkins household. If I was to ever win a reward of this size I already know how it’ll be spent! There’s so much to do.But even if I don’t I know that I’m the richest person I know. For I have excellent friends and a wonderful family! God Is Fantastic!
I had one baby shower hosted by my oldest sister, at Club 26. It was the community party place during the 90’s. A few of my classmates were there, my friends from the community, even a few church folks and of course folks that just wandered in. My sister had everyone record greetings and well wishes for me.
It was great!
Years later we had a ” Welcome To The World” ceremony. It was a celebration of birth, but more intimate, inclusive and spiritual.
To this day, I still don’t recall what influenced me to have one, as no one else I ever knew had done it before. Yet, the more I researched it, the more I knew it was the right for our family.
Eaim was born during a very stressful time. We had just lost Mia and all of our previous births, after my 1st born, were girls. So I didn’t know what we were having. The children and I had a church family, but my husband would rather study religion at home.
GENERAL Welcome to The World Content
For a newborn baby there will usually be a naming, which identifies the child as a unique individual. Often, the meaning of the name is explained.
The family and the community welcome newborn and accept joint
responsibility for raising it. (This is done various ways)
As part of the ceremony, items used in everyday life are presented to the child as symbolic gifts.
Participants can each write a message in a book for the child to read in later years
A tree can be planted that will grown along with the present symbolic gifts as keepsakes
Ends with a very sweet moment. Dad raise newborn in the air to introduce him by name to the ancestors and community. (I fell BACK in love w/my husband right then & there!)
A feast, and maybe dancing will be enjoyed.
I planned Eaim’s. It was a genuine Baby Naming Ceremony. This guy left the hospital without a name. It freaked our family out! We selected his name 2 months later, and officially registered him 9 months after that.
I know a few friends who are not religious and feel unsure about how they can celebrate their newborn’s birth. It’s difficult when you attend baby showers, baptisms, etc. for other people’s children and feel that you or your child may have missed out on something just because you don’t wish to celebrate in a religious way. If that’s you or a loved one, listen up. There are so many options out there.Find one that works for you. Our favorite happens to be straight from the motherland. I would love to officiate one soon.
I think I have my first guinea pig client . She is a new member of my
mom’s group. Can you say super excited? See you around!

This link shares details most like mine was actually done.
This Valentine’s Day, we’re snowed in and somewhere, after a failed igloo turned fort, dairy-free snow cream, nature walk, sled rides, slip n sliding, it ended as one of the best ones ever as a family.
My husband was the only one to leave the house over the last 3 days. That poor veteran got cabin fever!
Fear Of What? Storm 2014 and my vet! We don’t Have Time For That!
There was no big baby flying over our yard with a bow and arrow, just the new channel helicopter, overlooking the numerous vehicles stuck on the interstate. Hold the cards, candy and all stuffed creatures. You can even keep the over-packed restaurants. ( As if you are guaranteed to make it there and back.) My husband knows I’m not that type of girl. He knows what I like, and if he doesn’t get it with in 5 days I’ll buy it myself.
It’s earrings! Why? It’s practical and needed. A plain outfit can be made incredible with the perfect earrings. It’s the one item my kids seem to eat. I have about 4 single earrings. My husband is a good guy. Our bills are paid and I’ve never had a bruise, but not the most romantic. He’s a extreme saver and left to his on devices, he would never think to get me anything to say “I love you.”
Why would I by them myself? I home school six children, married to a veteran, and I try my best to always put them first.I deserve them and I love myself enough to make sure that I get them. Even if I have to get them from a pawn shop. (they’ll sanitize like brand new in no time.)
Love isn’t always a fairy tale. Family life and relationships are complex and ever-evolving with ups and downs. Without Self-Love, I can’t give to others in my life; I can’t be a good mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister, or wife. Whether you are in a relationship or not, you can use today as a time to reflect on the love you give to yourself. If you are anything like me, this is an area that needs constant attention and daily care. My challenge to you is to start a new tradition on Valentine’s Day- buy yourself something affordable, practical and don’t regret it.
When I had my daughter, her father worked full time. My mother came up days later. That first few days alone with her were rough. To add fire to the flame, her dad didn’t want anyone else to watch her. Not even our parents (unless they stayed over). I was crazy enough to do it again. The issues doubled! I’m sure that you can relate:
My children needed a playmate and so did I.
I wanted to take a shower,
Go to the store
Take a nap.
Go to my own doctor appointment
Make a dash to the store.
Time alone in the bathroom
I still wanted to party every once in a while.
Being a stay-at-home mom is one of the most demanding jobs out there, and even though I stayed home full time, that didn’t mean I had plenty of time to get everything done each day.
If you are a SAHM, close your eyes and think about how you’d use a few hours to yourself a few times a week — or even once a week-Kelle
When my home-schooled 15 year old daughter mentioned to me her desire to be a mobile babysitter, I knew she would be great at it. She’s had loads of practice and I knew just who she would serve. After getting her Family and Friend CPR certified she was ready to go. My daughter is the official babysitter of Queen City Stay At Home Moms!
Great babysitters creates great memories!
Now my sista moms of QCSAHM can take a nap knowing their lil one is just a few feet away. If they need time to work on a business project they can call her up for 4 hours and don’t worry about the tv entertaining them. If she is lucky enough to ” earn” date night or a Mom’s Night Out, they have the option of either getting 1-2 other moms to jump in for a fun group rate together at their house or dropping them off for an fun structured activity.
At a fair rate,it takes the work off of the mom. As active members of the moms group, they have seen her in action, they know the family, she’s exclusive and always show up with a surprise bag. A total win for all as she is able to pay for her phone charges and other minor bills she incurs.
Every mom deserves a mobile babysitter. Good babysitters can be tough to come by; if you find one, hang onto her/him by appreciating and compensating accordingly.

Nothing is more beautiful than a big, pregnant belly. For some moms, a beautiful bump is a blank canvas just waiting to be painted with amazing, hilarious, or downright adorable designs. I had my belly painted but it’s nothing like what is out there today.
Pregnancy belly painting is growing increasingly popular. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate pregnancy and capture that moment forever.
With that being said, won’t you help an expecting mom out by entering her for a chance to win a free belly painting!
The artist that is running this promotion is INCREDIBLE! It was a honor to partner up for this perfect expecting mom gift. If you are expecting or know someone in the Charlotte area who is, enter them right away. Contest ENDS at midnight on Valentines Day 2014.

Paint Safety
We use only professional theatrical grade FDA compliant face and body paints and cosmetic grade glitters. They are water based paints and are easily removed with water, no special removers are needed. I will not paint children who have cold sores, runny noses, pink eye, open wounds, or who don’t want to be painted, but will offer an alternative of a temporary tattoo. If a child has sensitive skin, a patch test is offered on the inside of the elbow. (Here’s more ideas here ) Tell everyone you know that is pregnant to enter HERE by THIS FRIDAY the 14th!!
Missed my posts? Well I’m back. And I have LOADS OF information to share with you. While I was away, I went to Italy*, became a grandma* and even became an athlete*
Sorry that I tipped out for a few days. It wasn’t on purpose. Obviously, WordPress didn’t like my post on Sarah Hottentot.
I missed blogging. I would peek on it every other hour hoping to see the message removed but as many of you know it wouldn’t pull up. Anyhoots, Thank goodness I’m back. I hope everyone has been doing well. I’ll be catching up on my post within the next few hours. Thank you for checking in on me! Enjoy the snow outside till I return.
