Evoke Natural Muesli

Brad’s RAW  Broccoli Poppers

Food for Life Baking Co. #Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Pasta –

RESULTS-

What I will not purchase:

The Sprouted Grain Pasta. If you are not a master chef. A chef that make miracles, leave it on the shelf. It is chalky and bland. To eat it, you would have to drown the pasta in sauce and chant “This is Good For Me,So I will Eat it and Smile.” I do think  the dry pasta work great as a craft item. Look for a coupon first thought, it’s a tad bit pricey. I would rather try to make it myself.Or give up pasta if I had no choice.

What I will purchase:

The Muesli –  (pronounced “muse-lee”) is a simple mix of real ingredients, typically consisting of untoasted or lightly toasted grains, nuts, seeds and dried fruits.. It goes with almost everything. Ice cream, yogurt, grind some up to use as meal, with or without oatmeal, in a trail mix or right out the bag. It’s filling and the taste pleasing. It has goji berries, cacao nibs, walnuts, and blueberries!  YES!!! The price is comparable to other gains I frequently purchase.

The verdict is STILL out on-  Brad’s Raw Foods Broccoli Poppers.  The broccoli is dried, sprinkled with cheese and dried out again. The taste is unusual, but not bad. It’s not one that you could just eat the entire bag in one sitting.

Well, that’s it. Now go shopping!

  • As with anything else we review, All opinions are our own. Any health food company we work with has a record of food integrity before we would consider working with them. Also know that though we are a large family, and may vote something off the menu, it does not mean that you shouldn’t ‘give it a try.
  • What I did learn is dehydrated food retains more of it’s nutrients than either frozen or canned foods. But tonight, it think I’ll make this  roasted broccoli recipe instead.

  • I grew up in the church, but never really noticed the significance of the scripture. Just in case you missed it too. – here you go…it’s from the New Living Translation;
“Now go and get some wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and emmer wheat, and mix them together in a storage jar. Use them to make bread for yourself during the 390 days you will be lying on your side.

Fun Family Character Challenge Inspired By H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Yesterday, we went to the library and my boys put on a puppet show for this cute little girl. They were so charming! I was like my goodness, is that all it takes to alter their moods so quick? Especially when they had just been upset because we needed to leave in 15 minutes?  Right then, they were the puppets and she was puppet master. I may have looked too much into this, but I was sort of bothered. Of course the little girl was super cute. But I wanted them to be ‘better’- All Of The Time.  And I knew that certain traits must be groomed from the womb.

Pressley Rasta boys doing a puppet show for s pretty girlBecause there is room for improvement with my entire family, I figured I needed to find a way to encourage certain traits that will serve them through life. I got home, and came across this huge poster that keeps falling to the floor upstairs.  Then it hit me. I bought this poster because I liked it. I wanted my children to learn and live it, from the inside out. So after pondering ways to get them interested in reading it I came up with a game.

I call it the “Successful Family Challenge” Check it out and please let me know what you think of it.

   “Successful Family Challenge”

Family game for great kids

Objective: To help build each other up by challenging them to character goals for 7 days then 30 days at a time.  The goal is to encourage better behavior in a positive and fun way.

Instructions:

Read the poster with the children and explain what each statement means. We even gave examples using our everydays lives as a tie in. This action allows everyone to self examine themselves as well as find a trait that needs adaption for their sibling/parent. The poster is numbered so selecting a challenge will be much easier to recorded and referred to to as needed.

After everyone’s name is written on a piece of paper. Toss the pieces of paper into a hat. Allow each person to pull and name.

Once the name is pulled, the puller selects a number from the board to give their sibling/parent as their challenge. The number and name is said out loud then written down by an older child or parent and kept in a safe place for the 7- 30 day challenge.

Each family member should be reminded of their challenge in creative ways from the puller as well as other family members. (Try writing it on their bathroom mirror, or in a text.  For smaller ones, a verbal reminder will work.)

There is no material prize. You can of course give one if you choose, instead offer a privilege. Because they have successfully improved himself  to some degree and deserve an appropriate “reward.”

Here’s what our Challenge Card’ look like: We categorized the name of the puller, the challenge number and the person who has been given the challenge.Family Challenge Card

Well that’s it! I’ll let you know how my family does in 7 days. Time to get back to the homeschool class room.

Be Real,

Friday Four: Plan B- Alternatives To College

This year, like many other parents, I wonder what college my child will end up at. In my cases, I have three graduating within the next two years. Then a six year gap before the next graduation rush. With such a large number of blessings, it comes a bunch of questions. I know accept that everyone of them will not go to college. That’s okay, but what I won’t accept is not having a plan after graduation.

college

In many other countries, college is free. Not here in the U. S. (Yet)  Beside that  a traditional four-year degree isn’t your only ticket to a good job with a solid salary. Some kids may get lucky an pass the bar without going to college and go on to becoming on successful lawyer, baby sit enough of siblings of cousins to become a certified nanny like my friend, Dominique Rice of Perfect Placement . I even know of a man that makes good money helping other people make money. his business is called Charlotte’s Open Air Market. So it can be done! Here’s a couple of ideas to ease your mind about  ‘College or Bust’ theories:

  1. Start A Business At the end of it all, you’re gonna work hard. why not work for yourself?  With drive, initiative, and a quality product, it may be more attainable than you think to make it on your own. In fact, some of the most successful people of the 20th and 21st centuries were entrepreneurs without a college degree.
  2. Pick Up a Certificate Almost 30 million jobs in the U.S. pay $35,000 or more and don’t require a bachelor’s degree, according to the Georgetown center. But that doesn’t mean your education can stop after high school. Most middle-wage jobs — $35,000 to $75,000 a year — in fields with increasing demand, such as health care, information technology and public services, require some form of post–high school certification.   Mom Coach: Noun/ See QC Supermom. A mature woman that supports other mothers in child related issues. She uses her wit, education, personal experiences, influence and resources to help reach desired goals.

    3. Travel the world. Get a job and save up money to leave the country. Check out a world completely different from our own. Do it for a year. You will meet other foreigners traveling. You will learn what poverty is. You will learn the value of how to stretch a dollar. You will often be in situations where you need to learn how to survive despite the odds being against you. If you’re going to throw up you might as well do it from dysentery than from drinking too much at a frat party.1 You will learn a little bit more about eastern religions compared with the western religions you grew up with.

  3. typ (1)
  4. SELL YOURSELF Expose yourself to anything and everything positive that you possibly can. When he/she has found passion in that field, encourage her/her to sell his/ her skills. Then SCALE it into sellable items to save wear and tear on yourself.  I.e. dvd, keychains, trainings, etc. Mastering a unique skill builds discipline, lets you socialize with other people of all ages and backgrounds but who have similar passions, and gets you paid! Education doesn’t have to be tedious, boring, and repetitive, but it should be a self-discovery process that encompasses not only your intellectual growth, but also your professional and personal development. Your child is NOT worthless. That’s what they want you to think. If you don’t go to college you will NOT “ruin your life”.

Wednesday Wow: My Candidate did NOT WIN last night!

The votes have been counted. All the wings and spicy shrimp and chips are all eaten, and the “Vote For Me” street signs have all gone and I’m left wondering how such a great guy miss the mark.

You gotta see his video—>  Ramuntu For Mayor  <—–Click there!

I voted for this guy BECAUSE:

  • Proven record of leadership
  • He thinks before he speaks
  • He does what he says he’ll do. I don’t always like it but I know what to expect.
  • Great line up of supporters
  • He LOVES Charlotte

As a back up, I had just two other candidates I considered voting for the mayor seat. It was DAVID Howard and Jennifer Roberts. Here’s what news since last night election.

David L. Howard
Good morning,

Exhausted, emotional, tired, disappointed are all words that could describe how I feel this morning…..and to some extent, I have felt them all. However the overriding feeling I have this morning is one of PRIDE! My campaign was counted out so many times since we started in January, and yet we raised over $250,000 and came so close to forcing a run-off. We also introduced and shared a progressive and pragmatic vision for moving Charlotte, a city I love with all my heart – forward.

I have received dozens of well wishes and thoughts since last night…..and will respond to every one of them. I just wanted to say that Mary and I could not be more appreciative of the hard work everyone put into making the ‘HOWARD FOR MAYOR’ campaign one we can all be proud of. It was based on real ideas for real people. One of integrity, dedication, compassion and focused on keeping Charlotte competitive for decades to come.

I’m not sure what comes next, but am excited about having that conversation with God. Stay tuned, and again THANK YOU everyone that volunteered, worked and/or that prayed for the ‘HOWARD FOR MAYOR’ campaign.

Thank you!
David

And my other is favorite: Jennifer Roberts.

jennShe is could very well be our next mayor ! She has proven to be friend to environment, business and education alike!

Good luck to whom ever wins the Mayor of Charlotte race.

The 2016 presidential election is still several months away from now. We can still make further and deeper research to know who really is the one who will become the best president for our country.

Let us vote based on the capability, effectiveness and efficiency of the person, not on his or her popularity. Let’s vote for a president who will develop, not only our own province, but our whole country. Let’s support leaders, not because we are their solid loyalists, but because they can provide solid services.

Let’s elect leaders who will transform our nation into progress, not leaders who will transport our money to their pockets.

Friday Four: Picking Your Hard

It’s no question that life can be hard! In a perfect world we could just wake up thin, with a stacked bank account in awesome health among a happy family answering to awesome friends. But that’s not the case. The truth is, you HAVE TO Work —- HARD. You have to pick which hard you want.

dependant child

I told her to pick her hard. If she stays there and continue to do her best in each class, in spite of the fact that she’s not popular there with the students or teachers, she would graduate with a quality education and also come out with a skill set many lack today. And that’s awareness of ‘color braveness.’

https://www.youtube.com/attribution_link?a=vJRoN5lTnYU&u=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DoKtALHe3Y9Q%26feature%3Dplayer_embedded

One of my friends studied nonprofit management and African American studies. Today she works at a highly regarded women advocacy nonprofit that identifies and injustices for all colors. I don’t think she had an easy time during her college years, but I know that she is enjoying the fruits of her labor now.  I still wonder why would a white woman choose to  go that path, but obviously it was in her to be a source of refuge.

life tips

I maybe wrong but I see many adults today, take can not handle emotional pressures or extreme life challenges because they never had to face any growing up. I don’t want to be that mom. I want to provide a “Ring Pass Not”. A controlled study for better words. Right now, they feel isolated, ignored and degraded for 7 hours five days a week.

When they get home, they are so grateful to be among their family and back in their comfort zone. I loathe hearing the stories they share.  But I will send them both back the next day. Mostly because it’s two of them there and I know nothing will happen that I haven’t prepared them for already. They both are articulate and self empowered enough to report any significant abuse, have cell phones and know simple self defense moves.

advice life test I believe that she will be a better person for it. Standing through diversity, educational, social and  challenges will give her the refinement she needs to handle larger obstacles in life. My husband noted “Do your work. So what if you are not popular with the other students or helped by the teachers there. You’ll be okay, as long as they don’t touch you.”

sheros never quit

Life can be  hard.  When you read the press you only read the glamorous bits.  You read about Oprah Winfrey or the Williams tennis sisters, Shonda Rhimes, or the BET company,  .  But that’s a bit like reading about your state lottery winner and feeling bummed out because you haven’t won despite years of trying.  The reality is that most of you will never hit it BIG yet you’ll lead fulfilled and productive lives. But you have to get up every day and make an effort  EVERYDAY.

Pick your hard! If you fall along the way, get back up again! It’s NOT TOO LATE!

Have more brain candy before you leave- Read this!  This one here, I will share with my daughters. I want them to see more woman that look like them progressing.

Have A Great Weekend, Jabela, QC Supermom

THiS DAY IN HISTORY:
#NeverForget: Sept. 11 Marks 14th Anniversary of Terrorist Attacks in US
On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four airplanes and crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Penn., resulting in 2,996 deaths.
I remember where I was. I had my baby daughters with me in East Charlotte in strip mall. I heard about it from the radio announcer & thought it was a joke. Some one mentioned that the attack might include Charlotte and I panicked.  I grabbed my daughters up in one arm and jumped back in the car away from the downtown area.

I am a Chick Fil A Mom…. AGAIN

Who LOVES chicken? I mean good chicken? Good chicken AND good customer service? I mean REALLY GOOD CHICKEN AND FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE? Ok, then, you want Chick Fil A! I am a second year mom ambassador for this great brand!

I am proud of this honor for three reasons.

cfl

1. I really love their spicy chicken sandwich. It’s not greasy, heavily breaded, or sloppy in appearance. I feel respected paying for it. Over the years, I’ve learned to respect my money better.

2. They love families. Many of them have free breakfast Wednesdays book fair nights and other incredible community building events and that in itself is rare!

3. They have the very best customer service in this world! I have dined at many of them in different states and have never been disappointed.  Trust me, when you have small children, that matters!

Chick-fil-A, Inc., Founder S. Truett Cathy died Sept. 8, 2014, at age 93. Cathy started the business in 1946, when he and his brother, Ben, opened an Atlanta diner known as The Dwarf Grill (later renamed The Dwarf House)

Feeding My Brain and Belly

Yes, the big cow and us go waaaaaaay back! Some of our children’s best parties have been there. I have ran into the Big Cow on a few occasions, he’s a pretty cool guy and believe it or not, he can do a nasty Stinky Leg (it’s a dance)

Let Me Tell You About the history of Chic Fil A right quick: The fried chicken chain generates more revenue per restaurant than any other fast food chain in the US, according to a new QSR report. Chick-fil-A’s average sales per restaurant in 2014 were $3.1 million, according to the report.

The Chick FilA Cow and friends

We have even had parties celebrating the dude! At our last birthday party there, he even came out for photo taking time! That was a HIT! See that vegan -gluten free cake that Cassie’s Sweet made. We submitted a video on how to get ready for Cow Appreciation Day. You don’t have to click it, but I won a prize pack for it! 🙂

This is my second year invited in the exclusive mom group and I’m looking forward to this exciting journey. One of the perks of being an official Chick Fil A Mom is the freebies. We get really nice incentives for participating in various promotional campaigns both on and offline. Some of them I’m able to give to my mom friends, and my son in college. He appreciates that to the fullest. Especially when his funds and belly fuel are low! Other incentives  are just for me. It’s a cute token of appreciation, that goes a long way- No complaints from me! cassie smash cow

In closing, if you really like good chicken, and a  great family friendly environment check ChickFilA out. I bet they will have some type of incentive to keep you going back!

I Will Now Pronounce You Husband & Wife…SELECTING A WEDDING OFFICIANT

Before you say “I do”, do a little homework on who you select to marry you. The right marriage officiant can make a world of difference in your wedding, marriage and entire life.

A religious ceremony, performed by an ordained officiant such as a priest, rabbi, or minister, is recognized not only by the state, but also by the affiliated religion.

A civil ceremony is performed by an officiant who has been certified in accordance with state laws — a county clerk, justice of the peace, mayor, or celebrant affiliated with a nonreligious organization.

wedding party in Charlotte

The officiant you choose can enrich your overall wedding experience and help you prepare for married life. Getting to know your officiant and discussing what you can expect from each other will help eliminate unnecessary anxiety on your wedding day.

Planning my wedding was one of the most empowering things I have ever done. I loved everything about it. Our wedding was a love story. I’ve learned that every couple has one. As a recent Universal Unitarian Wedding Officiant I love helping couples share their story. Being a wedding officiant as I’ve learned is much different than planning a wedding.  Learning on the job has been a blast. I’ve put together a few things that should be covered by both the couple to be wed and the officiant. This is kinda large in volume so I broke it up in two blog post.

wedding cake After the date has been confirmed, find out:

  1. What is your main responsibility as an officiant?
  2. Can you recommend other wedding vendors?
  3. How much interaction can we expect leading up to the wedding? Are you available for questions?
  4. What is your biggest challenge when officiating a wedding?
  5. What is the funniest or oddest moment in a wedding you celebrated?
  6. What is your wedding officiant attire?
  7. What is your rock bottom wish for every couple?
  8. Will you be responsible for mailing the license to the state after the ceremony?
  9. Can you do personalized rituals within the ceremony, e.g, Hand Blessing, Rose Ceremony, Unity Candle, or Sand (uniting of your two families) Ceremony?
  10. Do you require any pre-marital counseling or religious class?
  11. Do you have a written agreement or contract?
  12. Would you like to join us at the reception?

What are your credentials? charlotte Marriage offiiant

Ensure that the officiant is licensed or registered to perform a wedding in your state by contacting the city clerk. You can also ask the officiant which seminary he or she was ordained through, then contact that seminary. Years down the road, you wouldn’t want to discover that your marriage is not legal.

How much do you charge?

Know what, exactly, you will be paying for. Talk about deposits and types of payment, as well as cancellation and refund policies. Inquire about fees for traveling out of town, which include transportation costs, hotels and meals, and costs of (commuting) time. The wedding officiant is the person who must fill out the wedding certificate and send it in. Wedding Vendors in Charlotte

Here are a few important questions to ask yourselves:

  • Do we feel comfortable in the presence of this officiant? Does he or she seem flexible?
  • Does he or she seem genuinely interested in us as a couple, and honor our spiritual beliefs?
  • Do we intuitively feel we can entrust ourselves to this person for this important and tender part of our wedding?

Friday Four: Taste Testing Fun!

I was asked: What potential invitees, templates for interactive activities, and types of foods to offer during a taste testing.

Well let me jump right into it.

  1. KNOW YOUR GOALS. Before doing a taste test, establish a few goals that are easy to communicate. Are you implementing a taste test program to expand children’s food choices? Promote or introduce local foods? Encourage healthier snack or lunch choices brought from home?

     2. LOCATION-

Yogurt shop              Sandwich shop           Pizza shop        Bakeries                Schools

Libraries                    Churches                     Parks                  Rec Centers         Farm sites

Really just about any specialty shop will jump on this opportunity!

Here’s a great timeline I grabbed from the DOE

Pick two or three items you are considering for a taste test. Poll some of your school’s students, administrators, teachers, school nurse and parents. Ask them which they would like to sample. The school community will take a greater interest if they are part of the planning.-Ruethers

apple-comparison  3.  Food Selection and Safety- This is a big one.

— Make sure your packaging is professionally done, and meets all federal, state and local labeling laws. To learn more about these, go to http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/label.html.

— You have to be especially careful when listing your ingredients — too much detail and you’ve given away your recipe, too little and you haven’t sufficiently warned people with food allergies (for help with disclosure laws regarding the most common allergens, go to http://www.foodallergy.org/advocacy/labeling.html).

— Make sure to state clearly, both on the label and verbally to each taster, if there are any ingredients (such as peanuts or gluten) that you know a significant number of people in your community are allergic to.

Most attendees at street fairs and church functions won’t sign liability releases, but you can give each taster a one-page flyer about your products (perhaps with a coupon toward a future purchase) that contains all of your liability disclaimers and warnings; and if you do not know the Heimlich maneuver, make sure there is someone nearby who does (please don’t laugh — when people are eating and giving you verbal feedback at the same time there is a greater than usual choking risk).

4. Getting Help  This could be the most challenging part. but it can be done! Need                ideas? See here!

PROMOTIONS & MARKETING-       MAKE THE TASTE TESTS FUN AND INVITING

In addition to making sure your food samples are tasty and appealing, think creatively about other ways you can make the overall taste test experience fun. This way, students will be likely to eat better.

  • Place signs and posters throughout the school and at the cafeteria entrance. This will generate interest in the taste test.
  • Use posters and balloons to make the taste test visually appealing.
  • Play music as part of the promotion to generate excitement.
  • Include games related to the foods being served: play “Match the Grain Game” (asking students to look at whole grains in their original form and see if they can identify them), or play the “Mystery Game” (placing fresh fruits and vegetables in a paper bag and asking students to identify them by touch).
  • Ask servers to wear costumes or dress in the color of the day (based on the color of the food you’re serving). This can be especially fun if you’ve recruited the principal to be one of the servers! tcwf fruits
  • Give away gifts and prizes. Stickers with healthy food messages and age-appropriate key chains, pencils and other school supplies are fun for younger and older kids alike.

REINFORCE MESSAGES ABOUT MAKING BETTER FOOD CHOICES.

Take advantage of the taste test as a time to communicate core messages about the featured foods, especially their health benefits.

  • Place decorative, informational posters in the doorway of the cafeteria on a taste test day.
  • Make your messages to students short, appealing — and age-appropriate. Support what students just learned at your taste test about eating better.
  • Distribute stickers, raffle tickets or other promotional items along with the food — and make sure that the promotional items also communicate key health messages.
  • Place table tents with nutrition education messages about the featured food group and its health benefits.

SERVE GOOD-SIZED SAMPLES — AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY TO GO AROUND

No one like small samples. Three ounces of a new beverage will be a bigger hit than just one ounce of the drink, while a quarter of a sandwich will give kids a better chance to get a sense of the food than just one bite.

DR. WAYNE W. DYER was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development. He wasn’t flashy in any manner. That 75 year old man was very soft spoken, fit and low key dapper.

Dr. Wayne, has been inspiring people since his first book was published in 1976. Since that first book, Your Erroneous Zones, was published, it has sold more than 35 million copies.

His most affecting teaching is taken directly from the story of Moses in the Old Testament: how saying the words “I Am” creates a direct connection with one’s highest calling. PBS

I learned about him on PBS (public broadcasting station) years ago. He participated in a fundraising campaign by sharing his strategies from ‘ The Power Of Intention.’I FELL In LOVE WITH HIM. I was buying books for myself, the kids, and even friend girls because his message was so easy to follow!

Dr. Dyer works encourage people to be the best they can be without worrying about labeling by society. For me, he said, forget about trying to be that bible thumping, long skirt wearing, southern christian; just love God/Universe, people and stop making excuses for not doing right.

Now his personal business: Dyer was separated from his third wife and had eight children. He was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2009 but claimed to have treated it with positive thinking, daily exercise and “psychic surgery” performed remotely by the Brazilian medium João Teixeira de Faria, better known as “John of God.” that is some faith huh?!

Let share with you 10 of his most inspiring quotes that are sure to give you the motivation you need to be a better you. ENJOY!
