Federal ShutDown: In A SNAP Meals

Food stamp recipients to get February benefits early because of federal government shutdown.
In North Carolina, there are more than 650,000 households receiving food stamps under the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Recipients are being told to budget the money and plan ahead because if the government shutdown isn’t resolved soon, officials say there may not be any money for SNAP benefits in March.

SEE Flyer HERE

Last week one of my friends sent me a flyer from her office. It stated that our benefits would be posted early (January 20) and that it will need to last through the end of February because of the government shutdown.
This shutdown is also putting federal employees in North Carolina out of work – everyone is hurting.

“Starving people is not going to suddenly make people eligible for jobs,” Berkowitz said. “It’s only just going to succeed in starving people.” –
director of the S.C. Appleseed Legal Justice Center, said Trump unfairly circumvented the desires of Congress.

Here’s where I am with this: No parent that gives a rats behind is gonna watch their child starve. I fear that ALL types of hell is about to break loose. I have a contract with Family Dollar stores and it amazes me how bold shoplifters are right now. Old and young- are stealing diapers, candy, Tylenol, and underwear. If you think they will not be load the cart with bread, milk and toilet tissue; and walking out – keep sleeping.

I plan on using the skills I’ve been learning and teaching at the YMCA; Urban horticulture and STEAM. Bartering is also an option. This is the time to really see how much I believe my on words. Earlier today, I decided to share my families menu. Our meals are made for 6-10 people per night. We use produce from our garden garden and cook a lot in our crock pots. If we can inspire more families to stretch their food dollars, I’m all for that. If you have any to share, please drop them below as well! Until
President Trump and members of Congress work together to resolve the shutdown quickly and responsibly we are in this together!

My Family of 9 Will NOT Starve!
North Carolina residents who receive food stamp benefits will get them early because of the federal government shutdown that has resulted over a dispute over a wall at the U.S. and Mexico border.

“When we think about Mecklenburg County alone, we’re talking about approximately 60,000 households that receive food and nutrition services so we want them to know what’s happening,” Men Tchaas Ari from the Mecklenburg County Adult and Economic Services said.  If you have questions about your benefits, please call the EBT Call Center at 1-888-622-7328.

Friday Four-Homeschooling In N.C.; Startup 101

87,978 students are homeschooled in North Carolina! Yes, my friends. homeschooling in is on the rise. We don’t stop at the basic curriculum because the world is our classroom!

GENERAL FACTS, STATISTICS, AND TRENDS

  • There are over 2.3 million homeschool students in the United States.  That is, there were an estimated 2.3 million in spring 2016, and this was up from one estimate of about 2 million home-educated children (in grades K to 12) during the spring of 2010 in the United States (Ray, 2011). It appears the homeschool population is continuing to grow (at an estimated 2% to 8% per annum over the past few years).
  • Homeschooling – that is, parent-led home-based education; home education – is an age-old traditional educational practice that a decade ago appeared to be cutting-edge and “alternative” but is now bordering on “mainstream” in the United States. It may be the fastest-growing form of education in the United States. Home-based education has also been growing around the world in many other nations (e.g., Australia, Canada, France, Hungary, Japan, Kenya, Russia, Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, and the United Kingdom).
  • A demographically wide variety of people homeschool – these are atheists, Christians, and Mormons; conservatives, libertarians, and liberals; low-, middle-, and high-income families; black, Hispanic, and white; parents with Ph.D.s, GEDs, and no high-school diplomas. One study shows that 32 percent of homeschool students are Black, Asian, Hispanic, and others (i.e., not White/non-Hispanic) (Noel, Stark, & Redford, 2013).
  • Families engaged in home-based education are not dependent on public, tax-funded resources for their children’s education. The finances associated with their homeschooling likely represent over $27 billion that American taxpayers do not have to spend, annually, since these children are not in public schools
  • Taxpayers spend an average of $11,732 per pupil annually in public schools, plus capital expenditures. Taxpayers spend nothing on most homeschool students and homeschool families spend an average of $600 per student annually for their education.
  • Homeschooling is quickly growing in popularity among minorities. About 15% of homeschool families are non-white/nonHispanic (i.e., not white/Anglo).
  • An estimated 3.4 million or more U.S. adults have been homeschooled for at least one year of their K-12 years, and they were homeschooled an average of 6 to 8 years. If one adds to this number the 2.3 million being homeschooled today, an estimated 5.7 million Americans have experienced being homeschooled. [note 1]

Now my question to you is this? Are you prepared to dedicate 75% of your day to teaching?

  • group field trips, park days and/or p.e. days – ( join QCSAHM; we might change the name if you join!)

Contact the NC Department of Non-Public Education (NCDNPE)

The key requirements for homeschooling in North Carolina include:

  • Parents must have at least a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Families must file a notice of intent to homeschool with the NC Department of Non-Public Education (NCDNPE) between July 1st and August 15th
  • Families should keep attendance and immunization records on file for each homeschool student.
  • Homeschooled students should take a nationally standardized test each year and keep the results on record for one year.
  • The homeschool should operate on a regular schedule for at least nine months of the school year. (Don’t worry, it’s easier to do than you think!)
  • Families should notify the NCDNPE when closing their homeschool

For a full explanation of each of these regulations, including forms that will be helpful in staying compliant, visit the NC Home School Information Portal.

Homeschool Record keeping in North Carolina

The records that homeschoolers are required to keep in North Carolina do not have to be submitted to the NCDNPE unless specifically requested. However, it is a good idea to keep a detailed, accurate, and professional homeschool portfolio of items for each student. Information that you might want to include in your homeschooler’s portfolio could be:

  • Subjects covered each school year
  • Parent-administered or online school report cards or assessments
  • Yearly standardized test scores
  • High school transcript for any student in grades 9-12

Let Me Just Say This: Well Homeschool Children are SMARTER – Just kidding a bit here, but most tend to have more time to focus and recite things like this from Collin K.

We have been homeschooling since 2005. Here’s 4 Ways It Works For Us:

  1. Flexibility – I don’t like getting up early on cold mornings, and sometimes, I like to go to the zoo in the middle of the week. To do that, I need my kids to go with me. lol. Seriously, the flexibility is a blessing! If my dad needs us to come to SC for his care, we can just jump up and go. And yes, spontaneous field trips are pretty cool too!
  2. Protection– I know that anything may happen anywhere at anytime. But I’m sorry, some public schools are like Sodom & Gomorrah. The schools in our area are very rough. Having them with me in controlled, safer environments makes me stress less. At least I don’t have to worry about any teachers or other kids pinning them up for rape, bullying or anything else deemed ill favored. (Even the food at basic schools suck) And we can’t afford private school for 4 boys right now.
  3. Diversity– I want my children to really be prepared for their future. There are so many topics not covered in public school that children need. For example, basic finance, urban horticulture, Real World cultures, home economics, Africa:pre slavery, and mechanics -just to name a few.
So in short, our more tailored social interactions, support our values.
  4. Empowering – I trust myself to do this. I honestly feel that they are thriving better with me as a teacher. And because I have my husband to help financially support us. I want to continue putting them first so that when we are older, they will be more inclined to take care of us, if needed.

Here’s a tiny clip from a trip to Discovery Place. (I can show you how to save a lot of money on local admissions through my coaching sessions)

Disclosure: I am resourceful. Not the smartest. My husband, older children, wise friends, and technology helps educate our four young ones. When/if the time comes and proves our system no longer serves our best interest, they’ll go to public school with the quickness.

As a homeschool coach, I can hold your hand as you get started. It is time consuming. It requires organization skills. It requires patience. It also requires research. I’ve done a lot of that so you don’t have too. Hire me to help get you started and to be available for coaching sessions. Inbox me at
QCSupermomInfo@Gmail.com for more details.
Please use in subject line (The HomeSchool Coach ). I’d love to help navigate you through this new chapter of life.

To all my friends and family that refers people to me for home school coaching, thank you. I really appreciate that!

Happy Birthday Dr. King!

You’re Invited To The Party!! Help us celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday, 16 2019 at the West Charlotte Library, located at 2157 West Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28208. Everyone is welcome to this free community event sponsored by Momsrising and friends and hosted by yours truly!

MLK Day is a day to honor the civil rights crusader and is also great time to teach kids about his life and what the Nobel Peace Prize winner stood for. Local Charlotte families will be coming together once again on Wednesday, Jan. 16 to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and to empower local children to be the change-makers of the future.

This year’s event theme is “His Dream: Fifty Years Later.”
Activities include storytelling for children, family-friendly live performance about Dr. King’s legacy, arts and crafts workshops, dance and more.
They will literally beat our anti civil rights pinata and through a roundtable, share how they would have reacted if they were in the shoes of Ruby Bridges and Dr. King. This highly engaging program is recommended for kids 3 and older.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library – West Boulevard 2157 West Blvd Charlotte, NC 28208 1/16/18 5 :30-7:30 pm Light and yummy refreshments will be served.

Experts have said that helping young people become productive members of society involves more than sending them to school every day. As a community of parents, educators and caretakers, there are ways to look beyond the classroom to find community members who can help cultivate the next generation of innovators, leaders, entrepreneurs and change makers. If you are one of them contact me Kelle to find out how we can work together for our children’s future. Or say hello at this event. We hope to see you there.

The Non Denominational Wedding Ceremony

A Basic Wedding Ceremony Order of Events

Whether your service is civil or religious, it’ll likely follow the same general outline. Republished by the knot (I love them!) As a non denominational wedding officiant, we love helping you create your special day as you want it to be. You can find out more about me here– (CLICK)

HAY A & JABELA LEDSI

Before you start planning your ceremony order, know this: No two wedding ceremonies are alike. Even if some couples say the same vows or take a deep dip for the kiss, every pair has a unique mix of things as it comes to their officiant, remarks, ring exchanges, recessional and more. That said, the below is a traditional wedding ceremony order of events to guide your preferences, but don’t feel like you need to include every step or stick to a certain time frame.

https://www.facebook.com/WeddingsandBlessings/

The Procession

This is the part where the wedding party walks down the aisle and takes their places for the ceremony. You can each make your way to the altar separately, symbolizing the fact that you’re coming from different backgrounds.

The Officiant’s Opening Remarks

You’ve heard it a hundred times: “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today…” Or some start by saying, “Friends and family…”

The Officiant Addresses the Couple

Your officiant may take this moment to emphasize the significance of the vows you’re about to exchange. This may also include a reminder of your duties and roles in marriage.

The Exchange of Vows

Your vows are your promises to each other. You may repeat the familiar “to have and to hold, for better or for worse” vows, or recite ones you’ve written yourselves.

The Ring Exchange

As you exchange rings, you typically say, “With this ring, I thee wed.”

The Pronouncement of Marriage

The officiant makes it official (“I now pronounce you husband and wife”).

The Kiss

And now the moment everyone’s been waiting for: your first kiss as a married couple.

The Closing Remarks

Your officiant wraps things up with a few last words and, for a religious wedding, a blessing. —— If you are jumping the broom , this is where it happens.**

The Recessional

Basically the reverse of the processional, you exit the ceremony together as newlyweds, followed by the wedding party.

Friday Four: Surviving R. Kelly

On January 3, Lifetime premiered the first two episodes of Surviving R. Kelly, a six-part docuseries that unpacks the sexual-abuse allegations that, for over 25 years, have not managed to stick to singer R. Kelly. Led by filmmaker Dream Hampton, the series examines Kelly’s own life; talks to the women and girls, many of them black, who survived years of grooming, manipulation, and abuse; and holds both those surrounding Kelly and the music industry at large responsible for the culture they enabled and did little to stop. It also takes a hard look at the culture of “separating art from artist,” and questions why Kelly’s fans allowed him continued success even after many of the allegations against him were made public. I don’t have a heaven or hell to put him in. So No bashing of the wild man here.

What I do have is tons of empathy for those young females. I hope that in these discoveries, they all find healing, support and closure.

Where were the parents? I’m so mad at them. Because I’m still not understanding how they let this go on and not do anything. Then some even allegedly accepted money for silence. Who do that and why didn’t the other entertainers say anything?
Uncle/Cousin/Aunt/Family Friend Chesters” should be under the jail. But they’re NOT for the same reason he’s not! For the SAME reason over two hundred black girls can be kidnapped/raped/forced into marriage by extremists while the world does a collective shoulder shrug. – Yeah, I said it!

And what in the heck was he thinking?
Sexing 15 year olds. Pissing on children. Keeping women in his basements? Who does all of that? All these grown and loose women out here and to think that he would chose to prey on these babies, makes my inside crawl. He doesn’t get a pass because he can sing.

So many questions. So many emotions.

Image result for if you don't heal from what hurt you you'll bleed

He is hands down one of the best R & B artist to date. We can’t take that from him. I have his 12 play cd set and still listen to it once the kids are asleep. Speaking of kids, I read that he was rape from 7-14years old. Not a reason to validate the allegations, but just thought I would share that in my rant.

R.Kelly, “I Admit” ( with lyrics) —-
I admit I done made some mistakes / And I have some imperfect ways (I have some imperfect ways) / I admit I helped so many . SEE MORE here —–

After you read this blog, go to his instagram page for the wildest comments! I almost choked on the bluntness of his responders. And don’t forget to watch #SurvivingRKelly . It makes it impossible for the viewer to separate the art from the artist, because music was a tool Kelly used to allegedly abuse his victims.” ~@Jezebel

There is a 3 night docuseries event that began last night on @lifetimetv.  See more on that here! Now let’s talk about Elvis Presly , Jerry Seinfeld, Robyn Thicke, Luc Besson, Wilmer, Valderrama, Tyga, Scott Disick, Doug Hutchison, Joel Madden, Hugh Heffner, and Taylor Swift. ( list from https://www.ranker.com)……….. and the Catholic Church. Let’s just throw them all away!

Here Is My Friday Four:
4 Ways To Keep Your Daughter Away from Sexual Predators

I’m tired. We’re tired....all of these Women AND Parents of minors knew he had a issues/ pedophile behavior way back when he married Aliyah in 1994...

1.
Stop leaving your daughters with them boyfriends you barely know. Stop letting every family member keep them cause it’s free.

2.
Control what your child watches on t.v. and social media. What they see may influence them in bad ways too. Teach safety.

3.
Talk, Listen and Act.
Look for chances to talk about
sexuality ; it can include brainstorming ways for your child to avoid or get out of uncomfortable situations with peers. Reinforce that it is never a child’s fault when someone mistreats her.

4.
Be Easy To Talk To . OR provide a trusted source for her.
Head off guilty feelings. Don’t wait until you suspect something is wrong. “Kids need to hear that it is never their fault if someone behaves sexually with them and that they can always come to you,” In doing so, you help take away the perpetrator’s most powerful weapons—shame and fear.
Ask your children things. Listen to her. Show interest. Show your concern. Within the generation told to “Shut-tup and sit down” their entire childhood was destroyed. But now we all see who needs to be muted. Let your child know that she can always come to you if she feels uncomfortable.

Harlem GlobeTrotters-Fan Powered World Tour

The Harlem Globetrotters made their way back to the Queen City last week! This would be their new 2019 Fan Powered World Tour. How lucky were we to have first peek at their Guinness World Record Day premier. They played two games at my daughter and husbands school, UNC Charlotte. We had the honor of not only attending, but also give away almost 60 tickets to local charities!

See some of the smiling faces here on my IG page ( @QC_Supermom)—> https://www.instagram.com/p/BsHdtWKhNgN/

Families love the Globetrotters. And the players feed off that energy! They had the entire gym doing the wave. Not once but twice. And let me confess, right now, how much I love Globie! He is hilarious!

Fortunately my four guys love basketball, so there wasn’t a thing they didn’t enjoy about the game. When the flying Globies began those stunts on the trampoline, I just knew we would see those moves again once we got back home to our trampoline. To my surprise, they decided to give a performance before then! My little guys put on their own half time show in a corner. Thank goodness no one went flying in the air!

My older daughter enjoyed using their new mobile app during the game. It had exclusive features, including an augmented reality (AR) basketball toss game and one-of-a-kind image filters that she shared on her social media. Cool right?

And guess what? Hammer is a alumni of my oldest sons college, Hampton University! We thought that was cool to know. I always thought my son, Jervon would make a great Harlem Globetrotter. Especially since he’s super silly, and currently plays basketball overseas.

Now here’s a truth, seeing them again was full of ambivalence. New players – including females, some familiar tricks, exciting 4 points shots, same category of children adults selected to engage with roster’s on- court , shenanigans. It would have been nice to see a more diverse selection of volunteers on the court to reflect the beautiful hues of the Queen City. But then again, I am very passionate about inclusion and diversity.

So family, get ready! They are coming to a town near you! Look out for them all including Big Easy Lofton, Ant Atkinson, Hi-Lite Bruton, Hammer Harrison, Thunder Law, Bull Bullard, Firefly Fisher and, Cheese Chisholm – plus female stars TNT Lister, Torch George and Hoops Green. If you want to do something extra, prior to every performance, you can secure a ticket to Magic Pass, the Globetrotters’ exclusive pregame event. Magic Pass gives fans unprecedented access to the stars of the team, an opportunity to learn tricks, shoot hoops and take pictures on the court. After each game, fans can participate in a free autograph session.* Either way, you’ll enjoy the show!
