Queen City Stay At Home Moms

Featured

Seventeen years ago, I created Queen City Stay At Home Moms as an outlet for managing my sorrow. I had just lost my oldest daughter the year before and was preparing to give birth to my second son. All while homeschooling with low funds. Yes, I was married, but we were living off one income at that time. This group provided me with a way to meet up with other families, allowed my homeschooled kids to engage with other diverse children, and the opportunity to use my professional skills because we were highly structured with organized activities beyond the playground. Soon, it would be an additional blessing because I was sought out for ads, product review parties, and my entry into blogging!

Over the years, I have hosted over 20 thousand gatherings. Some from new business ventures,

They have included:

  • Political playdates at local elected officials office
  • Family Vegan Valentines Day Party
  • Family photo days,
  • Thursday group dinner at EarthFare
  • STEM explorative play dates,
  • Community outings,
  • sports play-time,
  • Swim days,
  • museum tours,
  • group baby showers,
  • New Mom Speed dating,
  • Total Children’s Wellness Fair,
  • local garden visits,
  • Shopping members’ new businesses
  • Coliseum shows

and more! We have even helped staff our members new businesses as needed. It was perfect because my eight children were the ages of every child that became a member ( except for the newborns)! We even made write-ups in The Charlotte Parents (a local magazine ) a few times!

The moms that join came from various walks of life. I refused to limit it to just families that look like me. I figured the best way to learn about a culture is by befriending as many families as possible. Still amazed that we reached three thousand members.

Although we have never had all three thousand in attendance at any event, we always had a great time and built strong connections. I understood that change happens and once a mom hit a milestone her objective may not include our group anymore. Most times it was due to moving, going back to work, children getting older, or no longer homeschooling.

Today it still blesses my heart to have strong connections with many of those that have graduated from Queen City Stay At Home Moms. As I have. Our youngest is now ten years old and is currently in public school. I work more for grassroots nonprofits and myself. Although I work from home, I’m most in various states at any given time. And at 46, I have learned to live in spite of losing my eleven- year old daughter in 2005.

Queen City Stay At Home Moms will always be special to me, but it has served its purpose and deserves to end on top. This week, I said goodbye to 15 wonderful years to one of the best holistic support groups for moms in the Queen City!

Friday Four: Cow Day, to the G.A. – We did It All!

This was yet another great week for the books! And I compiled it in the tidy little 4 pack! Ready?

Like all first Saturdays of the month, we made

it to Home Depot! Kids Workshop. Each month

it’s something different. And did I say it’s free?  This time our little diva friend  Leyla joined us. S

he is incredibly brilliant and cute!

Sunday, 3 of my sons left out on for Orlando FL. It was AAU Basketball Nationals tournament and 2 of my sons were playing. The trip was long…..eight hours one way! My oldest son came in handy this weekend! He did the entire trip alone!  My husband and I stayed in Charlotte to work and catch up on little jobs throughout the house.

Monday came and we returned the borrowed items from the Ellis Island celebration in Druid Hills. Did you miss it on the news? here’s the clip from that. ( here  ) and here are some pictures from our 7/4/18 day in the park—> (Click Here)

2.  This year, we downscaled our dress up game for Chick Fil a Cow Appreciation day. Did you go? My sister got her treats early that morning, I shared mine, and a sister-mom from Queen City Stay At Home Moms shared theirs too. Drop a picture below if you went.

3.  Have you ever seen a siser loc instal? I did this week, and I think I could do them on myself. Can you think of all of the money I would save? It could possibly be another flow of income and yes that is never a bad thing.

(See it here)     Sisterlock Install on Short Thick Hair…….it’s beautiful! My daughter got her install earlier today. I’ll share her results on  my  facebook. @QCSupermomLoc Extensions Neat, properly installed, and maintained by Sankofa @www.iamsankofa.com in Inglewood CA 90305.

I gotta say, having just two little ones is completely different than having all four of them together. It’s much less work.

These two guys are aggravating without their brotherly set. They are bored more often and I have less time and attention to focus on my other tasks.  I just had to send them outside with their dad to smell the air and clean the yard.

4.  I just got the update that one of my son’s team won the AAU Basketball Championship for his class scale but the younger one didn’t for his. To celebrate both of their hard work my oldest son took them both to Bush Gardens!

Well, that’s our week so far. Think you can keep up with us? Find out for yourself at

Soulful Saturday

Last weekend in the Queen City was super busy! And we loved every minute of it! I tell ya, there is never a dull moment in the QC!

Image result for black santaImage result for black santaImage result for black santa

As a 70’s baby, I grew up in mainstream -everything! Every depiction of Santa that we saw — from television to movies to storybooks — shows that rosy-faced, jolly grandpa who is unapologetically white.  He looked nothing like me. Am I not generous?

Am I not generous? Are others like me, not givers? At a certain age, I think it does matter subliminally and he’s not just a jolly, ole fat guy in a red suit.

Is it possible that a long, white beard, the big-bellied man in red with dark skin would not appeal to children in predominantly black and Hispanic parts of the city?

Well, a few of my children and I got to see for ourselves this weekend. We attend two events and both had a positive turn out!

Soulful Santasoulf

The first was Pride Entrepreneur Education Program, (PEEP) it’s a nonprofit of Pride Magazine. They had the happiest SoulfFul Santa on the Westside there. The crafts table was there to reinforce the holiday spirt by giving children the opportunity to create gifts for their loved ones.

The other event was at the Free Store Charlotte. It was outdoors and loaded with fun!  From face painting, coat drives, amazing hot fancy and filling food complete with cocoa, jump house, fire pit, free gift table, and so much more.Image may contain: one or more people, fire, food and outdoor

Did You Know: The Mall of America – the country’s biggest indoor shopping complex – decided to hire a black Santa for the first time this year!

I wanted to know how some of my mom friends thought about ethnic Santa’s. So I spoke with three of them from my mom group, Queen City Stay At Home Moms and each had very interesting responses.

The first mom said: “We balk at the notion that our children should believe that a white man brings them toys, when we ( black parents) are the ones working hard to make their children feel safe, loved and happy/ “

The second  mom asked, “Why can’t there be two at each at a time? Like half brothers? When I was small enough to believe in Santa, he was dressed so completely, including the beard, that I could see only his eyes behind thick glasses. I could not see, nor did I care, what skin color he was.  I would definitely take my children to go see an Asian Santa,”

The last mom commented:” Santa’s race matters. White folk have enough superheroes. I’m white, but have no tolerance for the abysmal prejudice and past treatment of people of color in this country.”

santa-soul

Although we do not celebrate Christmas, I wanted my children to see that the Santa doesn’t have to look only one way. Santa can be whatever they want him to be. Looking at my littlest Noah’s face, he may never want to go see Santa again, but he has photographic evidence that Santa can reflect the skin tones of many cultures. And that’s, well, pretty magical.

To see more culturally diverse Santas all you have to do is show up when he’s in town. Charlotte organizations like PEEPs, and The Free Store Charlotte will continue to invite him in our hearts, centers, businesses and home! black-sooul

End Notes-

Baron Davis adds a bit of color to Christmas with The Black Santa Company

The former NBA star aims to diversify the holiday with his game-changing venture.

You can find children’s books that feature a black Santa Claus, and he appears in some ornaments and other products. The website blacksanta.com, founded by the former N.B.A. player Baron Davis, sells products like T-shirts, hats and ornaments featuring images of black Santa. In a classic episode of “The Cosby Show,” Dr. Huxtable explains to one of the children that as Santa drops down each chimney, his race morphs to match that of the family he’s visiting – Asian, African-American, Caucasian and so on. -By The NYTimes

Fade Away Sleep Sounds WORKS!

Do you have a fussy baby or a busy mind?

(Yes, keep reading) (No, you will if you’re lucky, so keep reading) I have found the complete solution to them both. It’s a company called Fade Away Sleep Sounds.

Ultimately it’s has been a God send for me more than for the children. When it rains here in Charlotte unlike others, I don’t try to hide from it. I do the opposite. I open the window and may even go sit on the porch. The sound of rain, thunderstorms, wind chimes just soothes me. It’s the same sounds I can listen to everyday via Fade Away Sleep Sounds.

Have you heard of white noise /sounds? I’ll explain, White noise is a type of noise that is produced by combining sounds of all different frequencies together. If you took all of the imaginable tones that a human can hear and combined them together, you would have white noise.

I love the way Fade Away Sounds explains it: See below. https://www.facebook.com/fadeawaysleep/videos/10154432454291052/

When asked my moms friends of Queen City Stay At Home Moms how they enjoyed it I got responses all across the board. Since we have 5 babies aged 10 months and below, we thought it would be cool to try the white sounds on our little ones.

But after 4 weeks of consistently using the Fade Away Sleep Sounds, the common response was “it works!”  The babies love white noise. And it makes sense. They’ve just spent their entire life in the womb. And the womb is deafeningly loud. I guess you can say White noise sounds like “home” to a baby.

Here’s what my mom friends have shared:

Kim said she was able to do laundry, and have an uninterrupted lunch date with her husband while the baby slept soundly in the next room..

Tina shared, “As a homeschooling mom, having her little one nap at a certain time every day makes life much easier.”

Lisa messaged me and said the she wants to try more. She wrote, ” It helps not only her twins, but her husband too!”

qcsahm.jpeg

These sounds are  a way cheaper  and less toxic option than running your actual water or burn gas driving in circles till Little Bruce falls asleep.

They have so many sounds. Don’t miss any of them.

Follow them on twitter () and Facebook ().  and  thier YouTube Channel () –

Also, Fade Away Sleep Sounds are available on most all of the streaming and music download sites, listen in at  Spotify!

and Apple Music

Personally I suggest you  buy and download the sounds (as opposed to online streaming), from their  the website ()

Parents, you are gonna LOVE this. Be sure to share it with you baby for a full night sleep.

Enjoy!

Free/Low Cost Dental Work Resources

One of my favorite street vendors and I was talking and somehow we began discussing dental care. I still don’t recall how we got on the subject, but he asked for resources because he wanted his remaining teeth all removed. I knew there were local resources, but couldn’t recall them at that time.

Once I got home I was able to collect this list for him from posting online already. I’m gonna print it and hope he makes good use of it.This list is a gift to any adult in the medical coverage whole as well.  If you are not near any of these locations, just use the keywords and enter your town or county name. Something must come up.

Friday Four: Graduation and Absent Parents

High School Graduation  brings all types of newness. step parents affirm

I have a classmate that gave her daughter to a community friend. This year she graduated from high school and I was so pleasantly surprised to see here there supporting her child. It signified a a new chapter for them both. No matter what happened in the past, she was there and her child needed that. Another classmate of mine told me her nieces mom didn’t even showed up and the graduate actually cried on her BIG day.  What I want to share with any absent parent, let go of the ego and get your child!  Unless you are a creep, molester, etc,. the current guardian can no longer keep you from your child.  Yes, honey, it’s YOUR TIME TO bond!

Need help making it happen? I got you. Here’s FOUR ways To To Take Advantage Of This bonding Opportunity:

  1. Apologize for everything. Some things could have happened and you may not be aware of it.It may not even be your fault. Something could have happened completely out of your control. Own up to it.Gone on, claim your ‘ish.  Sort through all of it.But don’t put blame completely on the child and other guardian*
  2. Answer Offer to Answer any and all questions she/her may have. You’ll be embarrassed, but keep the end goals in mind. Sometimes you have to “UNTIE KNOTS “to get on a smoother road. Now is that time.
  3. Ask for a relationship. Don’t be crazy and ask her/him to call you mamma/daddy, but ask can we build some type of relationship from here.
  4. Find ways to be significant. You already know your child will need a mini fridge. Go buy it. Create a pintrest page to share with her/him. Keep it updated with college tips and advice. Send monthly care packages, Send gift cards to local venues/attractions in her /his college town. Whatever you do, keep sincere. While you will never make up for lost time, you most certainly can create a special relationship with your child that will never be broken. When she celebrate- you celebrate. When she upset, you find ways to put a smile on her face that no one else can.

These are my personal tips. They are working so far for me. Met my number 3.(yes, I altered her face)  She and I are building a real bond now.I know in my heart, she’s another reason why my professional services create more opportunities for me to be in her life. I’m not wasting the opportunities.  I’ll let you know how that goes!

Wednesday Wow-Common Law Sorta Marriage

If you have been living with your boyfriend for at least 7 ears, you just maybe married. Yes. Girl-Married. My boyfriend swore up and down we were married. And no matter how much I insisted that we weren’t he refused to believe me. Which makes me wonder if his parents are actually married, and at ease at the fact that I I was present at the courthouse when we went to apply for our marriage license. Seems as thought the common Law route is a family norm for them, but that’s a conversation for another day.

Are you shacking, co habitating and wondering if you are considered married?  This post will help!

The jurisdictions which still permit common-law marriages are the states of Alabama,Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina,Texas, and Utah, and the District of Columbia.  does go a little further by saying that if you live in one of the above states and you “hold yourself out to be married” (by telling the community you are married, calling each other husband and wife, using the same last name, filing joint income tax returns, etc.), you are  the Mrs.! I think I’ll keep my officiating service right here in the beautiful state of NC.

  • Alabama. In this state, the parties must agree to be husband and wife, they must have the mental capacity to enter into and understand such an agreement, and they must consummate the marital relationship.
  • Colorado. In order for a common law marriage to exist in Colorado, the relationship must be proven by the cohabitation of the common law spouses and their reputation for being married.
  • District of Columbia. In the District, a common law marriage is established by the parties’ explicit intent to be married and by their cohabitation.
  • Georgia- (if created before 1/1/97)
  • Idaho (if created before 1/1/96)
  • Iowa. A common law marriage is established in Iowa by the parties’ intent and agreement to be married, their continuous cohabitation, and their public declarations that they are husband and wife.
  • Kansas. In Kansas, the man and woman must have the mental capacity to marry, they must agree to be married at the present time, and they must represent to the public that they are married in order for a common law marriage to exist.
  • New Hampshire. This state recognizes common law marriages only upon the death of one of the spouses. In other words, common law marriages are recognized in New Hampshire for inheritance purposes only.
  • Montana. In Montana, the parties must have the capacity to consent to marriage, they must agree to be married, they must cohabitate, and they must have a reputation of being married.
  • Oklahoma. The parties must be competent, agree to enter into a marriage relationship, and cohabitate in order to be considered as having a common law marriage.(for inheritance purposes only)
  • Pennsylvania. A common law marriage is established in Pennsylvania by the exchanging of words between a man and a woman indicating an intent to be married at the present time. (if created before 1/1/05)
  • Rhode Island. In Rhode Island, a common law marriage exists if a man and woman have a serious intent to be married and engage in conduct that leads to a reasonable belief by others in the community that they are married.
  • South Carolina. In this state, if a man and woman intend for others to believe they are married, a common law marriage may be established.
  • Texas. If a man and woman in Texas sign a form provided by the county clerk, agree to be married, cohabitate, and represent to others that they are married, a common law marriage exists.
  • Utah. Utah does not recognize common law marriage, however courts can retroactively approve the marriage of couples without ceremony if the couple is of age and legally able to consent to marriage, have lived together, treated each other as spouses and hold themselves out as married.

If You Live in a State that Does Not Recognize Common Law Marriage

There is no way to form a common law marriage, no matter how long you live with your partner. There is one catch: if you spend time in a state that does recognize common law marriage, “hold yourself out as married,” and then return or move to a state that doesn’t recognize it, you are still married (since states all recognize marriages that occurred in other states). However, this is murky legal territory and I don’t recommend experimenting with it!

Now, If you desire a wedding officiant ,  I know this girl…… she is excellent and is registered in the state of North Carolina to perform really cool weddings for the non denominational, unchurch-ed yet spiritual couple. Check out Jabela, the life celebrant !

At Times Loves means Saying No and Meaning It!

If you raise your children to feel that they can accomplish any goal or task they decide upon, you will have succeeded as a parent and you will have given your children the greatest of all blessings. – Brian Tracy

My name is Kelle and I have created 9 people. I hug them, kiss them, let them sit on my lap, talk with them, and even share their pictures any chance I get.  But I’m NOT raising punk! I know people only change when they have to. If I don’t teach my children  how to love, fix their own mess and be responsible, they will have a hard time functioning as responsible independent adults. ps3

After I lost my 11yr old daughter to AIH in 2005, my motherhood goals awakened. I wanted to be the best mom I could be. If I could drive, bus, somewhere, my tribe is there. No Mother Wounds OR CockPit Parenting, just passionate motherhood. For example, let’s take the CEO of a fortune 500 company. That person spend hours learning the skills, they get up  each morning thinking of ways to improve the company. Every decision must be passed by and approved by this person. This person knows and cares for this business many times more than themselves. Well, I do all of that, but for my children AND my vested interest are humans.

We may not be able to prepare the future for our children, but we can at least prepare our children for the future. – President Franklin D. Roosevelt

The wisdom and morals parents can pass on to their offspring is priceless. To be responsible adults when they get older, they can’t be responsible if we are still doing everything for them and won’t let them out of our sight. If you need guidance, see QCSUPERMOM. I would love to assist you with personlized parenting strategies!

Great Parenting Quotes

Toxic Parenting  (Pleas eread this)

Children shouldn’t raise children. A BPD/NPD is often described as a child in an adult’s body. Emotionally and psychologically speaking, this is often true. These individuals can be incredibly immature and seem to be stuck at an early age of emotional development. Many of my clients who share a child with a BPD/NPD mother watch in amazement (and relief) as their children surpass their wives in emotional maturity, empathy and problem-solving skills.

Most things are good, and they are the strongest things; but there are evil things too, and you are not doing a child a favor by trying to shield him from reality. The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil. – Walt Disney
