This post is super challenging because the transition of my sister is relatively fresh like not- even- a- month yet fresh. But it’s relative to what I do and why I offer the service that I do. And besides that I have a tendency to repress my emotions. Sharing what a death doula is informs you, the reader of the job from the provider part as well as offers transparency from the family side as well.
Here’s my sister ( Adrian ) She is the most aggravating person I have ever known in my life! But I wanted her to life a long boring life….. Sure she could check in every once in a while but definitely leave me alone. Had I known or any of us for that matter, how much time she had we might have done things a bit differently. But we didn’t get the gift of time. But she knew we loved her. And I knew she loved me.
9 out of 10 people say they want to be cared for at home if terminally ill. Presently, half are dying in institutions. Death is the second leading fear in the united States.
How a death doula plays in it all; Death Doulas care for the whole person, taking into account patients’ emotional, mental, spiritual, physical factors and in my practice a little administrative guidance as well.
Death Doulas can:
Help create positive, empowering end of life plans;
Provide spiritual care, psychological and social support;
Suggest ideas for optimal physical comfort;
Help plan home vigils; and
Educate patients and families on the new and progressive options of home wakes and natural burials.
This training is for those who have a calling and desire to support and guide both patients and families through any aspect of the end of life process. Our training and certification is appropriate for all areas of person-centered care. Social workers, counselors, medical professionals, non-medical home health agencies, holistic practitioners, hypnotherapists, massage therapists, reiki practitioners and even people who just want to be an Death/ End of Life Doula.
Due to the enormous number of illnesses, there is an overwhelming and growing need for these types of services and support. Finding the right teacher and training program is one of the most important decisions you will make.
Classes Offered: Online and In Person or Hybird.
Cost: $380
Note: Death Doulas DO NOT facilitate death, nor do we produce or assist individuals in having a “good death”, nor do we try to help people realize they are dying. We do not place judgement or define what a good (or bad) death is. Our primary function is to be in support of individuals in their final transition from their physical body.
Death is one of life’s most potent and sacred passages, as well as one of the most denied, ignored, and feared. If brought to the forefront of our minds, death has the power to transform our lives, release the extraneous, re-prioritize our intentions, and initiate our courage. Death, in all its mystery, invites us to consider that the profound peace we’ve long sought after has been with us all along. We know there are so many questions. We know there is uncertainty. No one needs to do this alone.
Friday Four: Parents, a new school year has began. And so has another strain of COVID. Here’s what I need you to do to power your immune system. Affirmations, Meals, Herbs, and Exercise……. all affordable and easy to access so your may keep your risk factors in check. Consider this the quickest guide you’ve ever read.
As you know a healthy immune function that gets chronically triggered can cause any number of ailments. Like my other Friday post, I’m giving you four things to ponder. After reading the blog post and you need more assistance, feel free to contact me. Many of the items we grow, and /sell.
Four ways to keep a really cute inflammation (acute inflammation – your body fighting invaders) i.e.—> a healthy Immune System-
Herbs for Immunity & Healing – ginger, turmeric, paprika, cayenne, garlic, elderberry – think accumulative effect. Not instant healing. Keep them in your daily diet.
Exercises for Immunity & Healing Meditate, Now to help build your respiratory system- by encouraging better circulation and lung capacity–think aerobic–Blow up a balloon, laugh at something/someone!Check these breathing tips out! , go sit in a sauna, (I like to rub menthol VICs vapor rub on my chest and wear a sweatshirt.) swimming, jogging, dancing (Go on & TikTok it on out& tag me. I need a good laugh and inspiration!)
Food for Immunity& Healing – Cherries, lemons, Kumbucha, (Drink a good lemon -sugar free tea! ), beets, basil, honey, alkaline water, red cabbage, onions, pistachio, oranges, chili , sprouts, – just to name a few.
Affirmations for Immunity & Healing – Okay, now, I’m gonna share with you words of power that I have found that works for me. Give them a try. Repeat After Me: A.*”I deserve to live a healthy life!” B.*”My health is an investment, not an expense.” C.”I release any stress in my body- RIGHT now! It serves me in no way.” D. “I claim great health, a peaceful mind, and a good quality of life right now.”
The appeal of safe, natural treatments is undeniable. It’s true for age-old conditions such as the common cold, and for new diseases, especially if they have no known cure. So it makes sense that there would be a lot of interest in supplements for COVID-19, whether as prevention or treatment.
BONUS: Zinc, melatonin, vitamin C, vitamin D,
Fire Cider Recipe:Keep This In Your Fridge!!!! It’s MAGICAL. It works because the vinegar infusion encourages the herbs to release healthy minerals and beneficial compounds.
What is Fire Cider?
It’s a spicy, elixir that’s made by infusing apple cider vinegar with powerful antioxidant, immune-supporting, lymph moving, circulation stimulating, and digestion enhancing fresh herbs. Here’s how to make it! 🙂
Ginger root (Zingiber officinale)
Once very expensive but now widely available and affordable, ginger root has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years to soothe tummy complaints such as nausea, morning sickness, gas, and indigestion.
Also according to Penn State Medical Center, it has also history of use in helping to ease “the common cold, flu-like symptoms, headaches, and painful menstrual periods.”
Horseradish root (Armoracia rusticana)
Rich in folate and a compound called sinigrin, studies have found that horseradish helps the body break up congestion and calms inflammation.
Turmeric root (Curcuma longa)
The main constituent in turmeric root, curcumin, has been shown to exhibit “antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal” and other properties.
Onion (Allium cepa)
Loaded with antioxidants like vitamin C and quercetin plus minerals like potassium and sulfur, onions are amazing for supporting digestive health and immune function.
Garlic (Allium sativum)
According to many studies ( including my own)The benefits of garlic to health have been proclaimed for centuries;I put that root on EVERYTHING!
In other words, modern research is beginning to validate garlic’s use as a folk remedy for immune support. Specifically, the study found that garlic supported balanced immune and inflammatory processes
Jalapeno (Capsicum annuum)
Hot peppers such as jalapeno (or Carolina Reaper if you’re feeling brave) are rich in capsaicin, which assists the body in managing inflammation.
Lemon (Citrus limon)
Lemons are rich in vitamin C, which supports immune function. This recipe also incorporates the rind, which draws out a compound called limonene that has mood lifting, digestion supporting, and immune system benefits.
If you’re not using organic lemons, leave the rind off! Conventional lemons may have absorbed pesticide residue that can’t be washed off.
Optional Ingredient: Black Peppercorns (Piper nigrum)
Rich in antioxidants such as piperine, black pepper increases the absorption of other nutrients and help the body manage inflammation. They may also play a role in brain health.
Optional Ingredient: Rosemary or Thyme (Rosmarinus officinalis or Thymus vulgaris)
Both of these herbs have long been used in folk remedies to support healthy respiratory and immune function.

Last night I went to the library to do a little editing work alone. I had no clue I was about to discover another perk of having my FREE library card! I was on my way out and decided to chat with a few librarians before exiting. What caught my eye was amazing! I low key hoped no one else seen it before I had the chance to sign my daughters up. I guess I will now share it with you. But after you have discovered it, you have to promise to discover all the other treats that is available at your local library. Jamie and the other good folks over there need you to support the programs they have create for you – to meet your needs.
So what that says it:
If you have a CMS Student number, you not only have a library card, you also have the privilege to rent a free hotspot devices for free!
I was told the student must request it in person and have their student id in hand. They can keep it for up to one month. It can’t be renewed, but once returned you may be placed back on the waiting list if there is one. If you keep it for 3 months, you will be billed.
Now, if I hadn’t went to chat I would have never took the time to read this awesome library treat. Now here are four MORE reasons to visit your local library and discover the perks of your library card:
1. I got to meet Sister Souljah. at her book signing in the solar enhanced conference room ( Click here to see blog post)
2. They co-sponsor many community empowering events, like the NC Sheroes (each branch decides on this) Making relative and needed information free.
3. They have free educational play dates for mini readers, homeschoolers. Many of them include financial literacy as well.
4. FREE WiFi hotspots for adults too! YES!!!!! You can rent a 2 gb mobile wifi apparatus . As Jamie explained, positive card carrying adults can rent it for 2 weeks for $14.

(Yes, keep reading) (No, you will if you’re lucky, so keep reading) I have found the complete solution to them both. It’s a company called Fade Away Sleep Sounds.
Ultimately it’s has been a God send for me more than for the children. When it rains here in Charlotte unlike others, I don’t try to hide from it. I do the opposite. I open the window and may even go sit on the porch. The sound of rain, thunderstorms, wind chimes just soothes me. It’s the same sounds I can listen to everyday via Fade Away Sleep Sounds.
Have you heard of white noise /sounds? I’ll explain, White noise is a type of noise that is produced by combining sounds of all different frequencies together. If you took all of the imaginable tones that a human can hear and combined them together, you would have white noise.
When asked my moms friends of Queen City Stay At Home Moms how they enjoyed it I got responses all across the board. Since we have 5 babies aged 10 months and below, we thought it would be cool to try the white sounds on our little ones.
But after 4 weeks of consistently using the Fade Away Sleep Sounds, the common response was “it works!” The babies love white noise. And it makes sense. They’ve just spent their entire life in the womb. And the womb is deafeningly loud. I guess you can say White noise sounds like “home” to a baby.
Here’s what my mom friends have shared:
Kim said she was able to do laundry, and have an uninterrupted lunch date with her husband while the baby slept soundly in the next room..
Tina shared, “As a homeschooling mom, having her little one nap at a certain time every day makes life much easier.”
Lisa messaged me and said the she wants to try more. She wrote, ” It helps not only her twins, but her husband too!”
These sounds are a way cheaper and less toxic option than running your actual water or burn gas driving in circles till Little Bruce falls asleep.
Well, they don’t call me QC Supermom for nothing! I’ve earned this name time and time again. As of Sunday July 31 2016, I am the teen mom of a professional International Basketball player. Without doubt, I know it has been for grace and mercy!
For that last 3 weeks I have been crunched up on the 2nd floor of the hospital visitors lounge. Just keeping hopeful and eager for some good news. All of a sudden my phone rings, it’a my son. He tells me his departure date has been moved up and he’s leaving for Dresden Germany two weeks early.
At first I was sad because I want all of my son out of the U.S. But then extremely happy because he will be doing what he loves and in spite of the fact that we will miss him, I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
What was I to say other than, “I’ll wash your laundry tonight.”? After all, I gave him the wings. Now was not the time to lock him in a cage from flying. With that, I escorted him to the Charlotte Douglas airport.
Whew! I was so happy when he face called me after the 15 hr flight safely. I remember going almost 2 decades ago and recalled the huge planes, how good the food was and small the toilets were. With a time difference of 6 hours behind us, I asked him what differences have he noticed between the USA and Berlin. He replied,”Everything over here is small mom.”
—-well yeah, to him, I bet so.He’s 6’8 after all.
These guys must stick out like orange mailboxes.
Because I didn’t want him to forget any of the lessons he has ever learned so , I called in back up. My friends sent him away with tons of advice. See below….
My folks added ;

This just has me in tears I couldn’t imagine this being the last text from one of my Babies “Mom I’m gonna die”
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — It had been an evening of drinking, dancing and drag shows. After hours of revelry, the party-goers crowding the gay nightclub known as the Pulse took their last sips before the place closed.
That’s when authorities say Omar Mateen emerged, carrying an AR-15 and spraying the helpless crowd with bullets. Witnesses said he fired relentlessly — 20 rounds, 40, then 50 and more. In such tight quarters, the bullets could hardly miss. He shot at police. He took hostages. When the gunfire finally stopped, 50 people were dead and dozens more were critically wounded in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Mateen, who law enforcement officials said had pledged allegiance to Islamic State in a 911 call around the time of the attack, died in a gun battle with SWAT team members.
Thank God for JetBlue & other local organizations:

“Like many of you, we continue to watch reports of the Orlando nightclub shooting with great sadness. Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.

No matter what Omar Mateen’s reasons or ties were, he was a terrorist who committed an atrocious hate crime against the LGBTQ community at an Orlando gay nightclub, Pulse.
This is a massacre of persecution.
Grieve all you need however you want. But do not let hateful people make you live in fear.
One of my favorite street vendors and I was talking and somehow we began discussing dental care. I still don’t recall how we got on the subject, but he asked for resources because he wanted his remaining teeth all removed. I knew there were local resources, but couldn’t recall them at that time.
Once I got home I was able to collect this list for him from posting online already. I’m gonna print it and hope he makes good use of it.This list is a gift to any adult in the medical coverage whole as well. If you are not near any of these locations, just use the keywords and enter your town or county name. Something must come up.

If you have been living with your boyfriend for at least 7 ears, you just maybe married. Yes. Girl-Married. My boyfriend swore up and down we were married. And no matter how much I insisted that we weren’t he refused to believe me. Which makes me wonder if his parents are actually married, and at ease at the fact that I I was present at the courthouse when we went to apply for our marriage license. Seems as thought the common Law route is a family norm for them, but that’s a conversation for another day.
Are you shacking, co habitating and wondering if you are considered married? This post will help!
The jurisdictions which still permit common-law marriages are the states of Alabama,Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina,Texas, and Utah, and the District of Columbia. does go a little further by saying that if you live in one of the above states and you “hold yourself out to be married” (by telling the community you are married, calling each other husband and wife, using the same last name, filing joint income tax returns, etc.), you are the Mrs.! I think I’ll keep my officiating service right here in the beautiful state of NC.
Alabama. In this state, the parties must agree to be husband and wife, they must have the mental capacity to enter into and understand such an agreement, and they must consummate the marital relationship.
Colorado. In order for a common law marriage to exist in Colorado, the relationship must be proven by the cohabitation of the common law spouses and their reputation for being married.
District of Columbia. In the District, a common law marriage is established by the parties’ explicit intent to be married and by their cohabitation.
Georgia- (if created before 1/1/97)
Idaho (if created before 1/1/96)
Iowa. A common law marriage is established in Iowa by the parties’ intent and agreement to be married, their continuous cohabitation, and their public declarations that they are husband and wife.
Kansas. In Kansas, the man and woman must have the mental capacity to marry, they must agree to be married at the present time, and they must represent to the public that they are married in order for a common law marriage to exist.
New Hampshire. This state recognizes common law marriages only upon the death of one of the spouses. In other words, common law marriages are recognized in New Hampshire for inheritance purposes only.
Montana. In Montana, the parties must have the capacity to consent to marriage, they must agree to be married, they must cohabitate, and they must have a reputation of being married.
Oklahoma. The parties must be competent, agree to enter into a marriage relationship, and cohabitate in order to be considered as having a common law marriage.(for inheritance purposes only)
Pennsylvania. A common law marriage is established in Pennsylvania by the exchanging of words between a man and a woman indicating an intent to be married at the present time. (if created before 1/1/05)
Rhode Island. In Rhode Island, a common law marriage exists if a man and woman have a serious intent to be married and engage in conduct that leads to a reasonable belief by others in the community that they are married.
South Carolina. In this state, if a man and woman intend for others to believe they are married, a common law marriage may be established.
Texas. If a man and woman in Texas sign a form provided by the county clerk, agree to be married, cohabitate, and represent to others that they are married, a common law marriage exists.
Utah. Utah does not recognize common law marriage, however courts can retroactively approve the marriage of couples without ceremony if the couple is of age and legally able to consent to marriage, have lived together, treated each other as spouses and hold themselves out as married.
If You Live in a State that Does Not Recognize Common Law Marriage
There is no way to form a common law marriage, no matter how long you live with your partner. There is one catch: if you spend time in a state that does recognize common law marriage, “hold yourself out as married,” and then return or move to a state that doesn’t recognize it, you are still married (since states all recognize marriages that occurred in other states). However, this is murky legal territory and I don’t recommend experimenting with it!
