Friday Four: What To Do While Waiting On The Snow

I said “Brrrrr! It’s cold in here! It must be a Tiger in the atmosphere!” YES, it’s a corny old school day cheer, but it is definitely cold in the QC. So settle in and stay there. Charlotte, NC has closed for the week!

Organo Gold Now Delivers Healthy Coffee to Your DoorNortherners make jokes about how we southerners react to a “little snow.” But we rarely get snow down here in Charlotte NC. When the news folks began to talk about the white gold, the children and I got excited while my husband begins his search for batteries!

So while he’s running around like a mad man, I’ll tell you about my top four ideas to help you enjoy this cold and shut in weather! They were inspired by my QC Supermom FB friends.

Fashion Misfit1. Well if you have a significant other, then lucky you.  The cold weather means wanted body contact. Cuddle on the couch with a few good movies, light snacks, and a warm blanket. OR you could turn up the music to your favorite music artist and just relax. Two of my friends are doing just that. One just shared on QC Supermom that she is listening to Bob Marley on Spotfy… sippin wine. Thinking about all of the above makes me all warm and fuzzy on the inside!

Make sure Fido is warm if he/she sleeps outside.

2. Catch up with back logged work. Sure, it’s not as fun, but it’s still a smart move. Just about all of your questions can be answered by third parties because they too have little to do today. My friend Ed, from The Preparedness Consulting group is doing his taxes, getting ready for his next trade show and completing some new home made laundry detergent. A momperneur friend of mine, from Fashion MisFit is getting a head start on her next big order of customized purses.

3.” We made “Casuela de Cerdo” a pork and potato stew .. Hot tea.. And movies … I am going to do some sewing tomorrow! ” said Jessica.  I like the idea of trying new recipes also.

4.Have your children perform’ Karaoke Night’ for you! My babies LOVE to entertain me.  It is by far the best and most affordable entertainment in town. The video below was from Thanksgiving. They entered my work-space so I watched them dance. 🙂

Whatever you do, stay safe, warm, inside, prepared, and connected to others!

Wednesday Wow: 2014 Queen City Stay At Home Moms

I am so ready for 2015! There is so much to look forward to. My family, professionally and within the community. Today I wanted to share with everyone the accomplishments of my mom support group, Queen City Stay At Home Moms.QCSAHM 2014-15

I started this group in 2007, right after my moms passed. I needed something to focus on beside my boyfriend and children. I was fustrated because I had two college degrees and was doing absolutely nothing either of them, and like my mom in many ways, didn’t know how to put myself first. Here just seven years later, I have created something remarkable and of high quality for all moms of the Queen City. This has given me a platform to use both my motherhood and collegiate education.

Ronald McDonalds house and QC Supermom

We enjoyed hosting and organized a Swap Till We Drop clothing drive for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House- Charlotte

Now as a wife, mother of nine, doula, wedding officiant, mom activist, and a certifed mom coach, I am proud to challenge the stigma that comes with your typical stay at home mom. No longer does that title mean Peg Bundy.

QUEEN CITY STAY AT HOME MOMS

There are many things that I am proud of accomplishing over the years. We have created over 32 jobs. Assisted 8 moms into momperneurship. We have hosted 5 Total Children’s Wellness Fair and have given over 200 hours on charity. The moms workshops, private movie screenings, cooking with kids classes, our incredible contests, group birthday parties, opportunities to product test AND  the comfort of always having a mom friend to confide in has been icing on the cake. QCSAHM’s, accept moms where they are and challenge them to be more by providing resources, tools and opportunities to grow in any holistic directon she chooses.

  • Build more options for mothers to grow skills for holistic motherhood
  • Secure more sponsorships to enable us to have more enriching mom workshops and to
  • Encourage more moms to share their intrests with our group more frequently.Quick recipes for busy Moms

QC Supermom 2014: My blogging year in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

I am celebrating four years of blogging! Thank you for being a part of it all. WordPress was nice enough to compile everything in a cute little report for me and I would love to share it with you!  What a year it has been. Not all cute, but a definite time of growing.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 12,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Mommy’s Hints for College Kids

Cousins.....My college crew

Cousins…..My college crew

My son just called asking about his laundry issues. I know that I taught him how to do laundry ,but obviously he missed something. Lucky you! Here are a few laundry tips and other keys to a easy  life. 🙂 If I left anything out, please tell me here. I’m sure the other kids will need this info also.

College kid TIPS:

1. Remove pimples! Dab some lemon juice on the pimple.

2. You know that sticky residue that collects on irons? Run the iron (don’t use the steam setting) over white paper sprinkled with salt.

3. Add 1/2 cup of lemon juice to a load of laundry to brighten whites.

4. Broken necklace? Connect it with dental floss till you can get it fixed.

5Clean your microwave by placing a glass bowl filled with 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 cup water inside and heating it for five minutes on the highest setting. After the mixture cools, use a cloth dipped in it to wipe off splattered food stains.

6. Breath stinks? Chew on some parsley or cilantro.

7. Put a slice of bread in a bag of hard brown sugar and check it a few days later. The brown sugar will soften and become usable (and edible) again.

8. Keep the microfrige fresh-smelling and dry by lining the bottom with newspaper.

9. Make a paste out of lemon juice and salt and use it to scour and disinfect your bathroom surfaces (but don’t use on marble!).

10. Sound the alarm. To keep unwanted people out your closet, room, etc. tie a small bell to the door. When the door opens the ring will sound.

Extras:

11.  Let your car warm up! Racing a cold engine increases wear.

12. Hangover? I know it happens. Just grab a cold tea bag to relieve those tired eyes.

So how’d I do?

Happy Fall, QC Supermom
