Wednesday Wow: 2014 Queen City Stay At Home Moms

I am so ready for 2015! There is so much to look forward to. My family, professionally and within the community. Today I wanted to share with everyone the accomplishments of my mom support group, Queen City Stay At Home Moms.QCSAHM 2014-15

I started this group in 2007, right after my moms passed. I needed something to focus on beside my boyfriend and children. I was fustrated because I had two college degrees and was doing absolutely nothing either of them, and like my mom in many ways, didn’t know how to put myself first. Here just seven years later, I have created something remarkable and of high quality for all moms of the Queen City. This has given me a platform to use both my motherhood and collegiate education.

We enjoyed hosting and organized a Swap Till We Drop clothing drive for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House- Charlotte

Now as a wife, mother of nine, doula, wedding officiant, mom activist, and a certifed mom coach, I am proud to challenge the stigma that comes with your typical stay at home mom. No longer does that title mean Peg Bundy.

QUEEN CITY STAY AT HOME MOMS

There are many things that I am proud of accomplishing over the years. We have created over 32 jobs. Assisted 8 moms into momperneurship. We have hosted 5 Total Children’s Wellness Fair and have given over 200 hours on charity. The moms workshops, private movie screenings, cooking with kids classes, our incredible contests, group birthday parties, opportunities to product test AND  the comfort of always having a mom friend to confide in has been icing on the cake. QCSAHM’s, accept moms where they are and challenge them to be more by providing resources, tools and opportunities to grow in any holistic directon she chooses.

Friday Four: QCSAHM 5th Of July Potluck ’13

DIGITAL CAMERADinner parties are expensive, everybody’s busy, and with good friends, or a great mom support group you’re not worried about impressing anyone. You just want to hang out and relax. RIGHT?  Potluck parties are one of the least stressful and most budget-friendly ways to throw a dinner party. But as with most communal efforts, they work best when everyone works together. We had our annual 5th Of July Potluck today. It wasn’t a large as a crowd we had last year, but for an rainy, day. We did fine with the 12 people that made it out.

Moms love big savings! We love eating and we love other families. Here are 4 reasons to consider having or attending a potluck dinner with like minded families.

Queen City Stay At Home Moms annual potluck 5th of the year gathering

Queen City Stay At Home Moms annual potluck 5th of the year gathering

1. Know why you’re having it! If it a birthday celebration, everyone can chip in with a gift.  If its in the summer, do it at a park. If it’s cooler out, do it at a friends house. The key is to maximize the day! You could even make a fun play date out of it.

Don’t assume counter or prep space. Also if you’re hosting it, be prepared to provide the entree. Large items are typically difficult to transport and would be an inconvenience to one of your guests to bring to the meal.

2, Understand what to do. Who will bring what and how much? Where will you meet? Under the shed or by the play ground? Does everyone eat red meat? Any vegetarians?  What time?

Make a dish that is hardy enough to survive the trip to the party and can be served at room temperature.

3.Make sure you organize it. If you host it at a park, call the local Park& Rec center for permission. (If your circle is comprised off non cookers, except one & everyone wants quality food-pay that friend to cook dinner for ya’ll once a month. Surly, they are willing to chip in for a great meal with a awesome host (Hey chef, get your money in advance, use Zokos!) while its NOT a potluck any more, it’s still an organic option to enjoy food together with friends-affordability. )

4. Don’t forget to get them to label their food. A piece of painter’s tape and sharpie would  be fine–or someone might walk off with your plate/ bowl.Speaking of sporks, where will the tables and chairs come from?

You follow these 4 points and every potluck you plan from here on out will save you time, money, sanity and brain cells.

“I suck at cooking” is not an excuse for premade food. Salads, punches, dips, etc. are all easy, readily available options that anyone can make.  Till the next oven baked turkey sandwich, QC Supermom

Friday Four: 4 Things about Kelle Pressley

It is with much delight that I announce FOUR  changes in QC Stay At Home Moms!   Ready?

1. We now have a couple event planner- SeKeitha  opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction].Proverbs 31:26

2 A  Home School Resource Coordinator –  Mrs E. daughter has never stepped feet in a school for instruction. She is full of  ideas and tools to help budding minds grow.

3. An  Assistant Event Manager-‘Ash is the youngest on the administrative team.

She completely ran it when I was out with Noah. What a great job she did!

And Last but NOT least….. not only did I celebrate 14 years with my husband,  BUT-

4. I’m Free (Rev. Milton Brunson & Thompson Community Choir) (Lead) I am freePraise the LordI’m free. No longer bound. No more chains holding me

At one point I was doing EVERYTHING  for both my family & my group. I would often crash or just lose my mental focus all together, (Just ask my attny 🙂 ) But it’s so much better. I have in place a few women with strong skills that will not only help our wonderful mom support group & themselves , but also other moms in the circle. I think we’ve came a long way from back in the day when I was doing everything to grow the Mega Mom support group to what it is today.  And we are just beginning! Don’t you just love it?

So moms, & fellow dreamers. Keep your eyes on the prize. Tripping is okay as long as you JUMP  back up with shin guards on.

God has such a thoughtful way of saying ‘slow down’. I’ve could listen to human warnings, instead it came in the most embarrassing & yet prolific way.  Well, I’ve since learned to delegate and become more strategic with my time.  2011 -12 was a test of my endurance confidence and character! I made it through & I can’t wait to see what 2013 & on will bring! Have a great weekend everyone!

Remember:

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (Amplified Bible)
