Wednesday Wow: CIAA Free listing here.

It’s true. Some things in life are free! The 9th annual CIAA comes to the city of Charlotte next week on February 25th through March 1st. Female and male student-athletes from 12 different institutions will play harder than ever before in hopes to move up to the NCAA Division II tournament.images

Yes, I live in Charlotte, Yes my son plays and attends a HBCU. Yes we enjoy to his game and being his personal pep squad. But sadly I must admit, I will not be at any of the CIAA games. BUT I will have my children at the FREE family events.

But first, let me give you a little history of the CIAA. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association was founded in 1912 on the campus of Hampton Institute. Its founders were Allen Washington and C.H. Williams of Hampton Institute; Ernest J. Marshall of Howard University; George Johnson of Lincoln University, PA ; W.E. Atkins, Charles Frasher and H.P. Hargrave of Shaw University; and J.W. Barco and J.W. Pierce of Virginia Union University.

Now it is the oldest African-American athletic conference in the United States. mostly consisting of historically black colleges and universities. Recent addition Chowan University is the first non-HBCU to play in the conference. Conference teams participate in the NCAA‘s Division II. Teams in the conference are mostly from North Carolina and Virginia, though there is one each fromPennsylvania and Maryland. The CIAA is divided into Northern and Southern Divisions in all of the sports except track and field/cross country and baseball, and sponsors 16 annual championships.

Can you say big dollars for the QC?!  There is talk about it leaving next year. At stake is one of the city’s biggest tourism events, estimated to create more than $40 million in economic impact. It may end up in Raleigh, Atlanta, Greensboro, Washington D.C., Brooklyn, N.Y. and Baltimore…who knows.

I plan to be at Hampton University watching my son play. But if you’re gonna be here. Here’s a few free event to enjoy.

Date Night with the Vet: The Best Man Holiday

Christmas Eve Edition:

I finally got to see it! The Best Man Holiday. It was absolutely beautiful. Every single moment of it. I was able to talk my husband into going with me. Man did he kick the first 2 weeks I asked him to come along. “It’s a chic flick” he says. “I’m gonna go see a different movie.” I wore him down.

The Trailer: The Best Man Holiday     tbm

In the movie one of the wives was dying of cancer. Even with all of that money, a loving – faithful husband, humongous house, incredible friends, perfect children, and the best treatments, there was no earthly healing.

There is no way anyone can “prepare” for the death of a loved one. I know this first hand. I couldn’t prepare for 11 year old daughter that cold morning in Chapel Hill no matter how hard I prayed for a different outcome or for my mom. Even when she mentioned how unfair it was for everyone to leave her in the hospital. I remember her trying leave but couldn’t make it to the room’s door. This movie demonstrated the denial, anger, faith, pain, surrender, and hope that  one goes through during times like this. I couldn’t grab a napkin/ or sleeve because I was to busy regulating my own emotional roller coaster. As it was all too familiar.

When ever secondary education colleagues reunite subsequent to 15 numerous years during the Party excursions, they are willing to explore in what way convenient it happens to be for the purpose of long-forgotten rivalries not to mention romances to always be ignited.

Another part of the movie that I thought was a perfect reflection of real life was the timing of pregnancy. I remember hiding my last few pregnancies. Can you believe that I once considered being a “Fertile Myrtle” was less than a blessing?

Now about that cat fight, raunchy house party, back stabbing among brothas, the interracial dating, and talent show…….. I won’t ruin the movie experience for you by sharing. Let’s just say, there is NOTHING like unconditional love of a crazy bunch of friends and family. The entire cast was incredible.

Go see or download it today!

My husband, not Anthony Hamilton, but my real life one now thinks he can delivers babies…… Go figure!

You can watch a bit of it here. In closing, yes you can turn a  $%#^# into a housewife. (I’m just joking on that one folks!)

Have a fantastic holiday week.

(Thank You Fandango for the tickets in order to review this movie.)

Friday Four: There is always something happening in the QC!

ffOn any given day in Charlotte, there is something going on. Just today while out running errands proved to be of the most amazing one for me yet.  We never had as much activity in South Carolina. I moved to North Carolina about 15 years ago with my job.  In man ways, its a great thing, in others it’s just plain awful. Today was a mixture of both.

This Friday was one for the books I won’t forget it for a long time: bmh

1. My daughter won movie and music tickets. For To pick them up, I had to go to the DSCI0004 DSCI0005

Mrs Vonetta Smith

Mrs Vonetta Smith

CBS Radio office.I saw  Vonetta from Power 98 in action. I listen to the radio so seldom, but after meeting this sweet lady, I think I’ll tune in more often. She is on air from 10- 2pm  I’ll cal them Monday to let Danny Diaz know the link to the sound track didn’t work. 😦

2. As I traveled through downtown, I passed 4th Street an seen that there was a movie being shot .I wonder if my Impala got in the shot? I slowed down hoping that it would. Then I could tell the world that my twice rebuilt Impala lives on!

3.  As I turned onto Beatties Ford Rd.I seen a car accident. The other car T-Boned the other one. Thank goodness everyone was ok.

4. A little further up the road was the worst thing I’ve seen in my life. I rolled up at the end of a shooting. This was the worst! Another senseless crime. All I could think of was my incredible 5 sons. I hope that they continue to stay on a hopeful path in life.
