Friday Four: Sometimes even moms need a time out.

Thank Goodness it Friday!!! My husband is officially on for the weekend. Have you ever had on THOSE weeks that you just couldn’t finish anything? Yes? Well here’s your high five, because that’s exactly how my week went. I needed a serious time out!

They're trying to get me!!!!

They’re trying to get me!!!!

This week I stayed thigh deep in the game of Life! Schooling ( to continue home schooling or new zip code), loss of our faithful “Lucy Suzie Woo” (our mini van), getting ready for Cirque du Soleil Quidam and  my weight (yikes!).

Having the children lesson plans indeed make my day much easier, but if I didn’t have to do it at all I probably wouldn’t. But compromising their total wellness is not an option. Maybe it’s time to move in a different zip code. Till then back to the books. The kids have year end testing coming up soon!

Per DNPE: We must operate for a school term of at least nine calendar months on a regular schedule excluding reasonable holidays and vacations.  (DNPE strongly advises a school term of at least 180 school days; typical school days of at least 5 1/2 hours in length; and, typical class periods for grade 9-12 students of 50 minutes each.)

2. 8 people are sharing 1 Impala. Well, we, the parents are, my minivan burnt up aThank you and goodbye Suzy Lucy Woo - you served us well. Rest on. few days ago.  Only our 20 year old can drive, but he’s in college. Have you seen my weekly calendar? (Click here) We are never home! Thank goodness I have a wonderful assistant organizer to pick up my slack. Sure we are making less of a footprint in the ozone, I do miss the space and being able to take all the children with me…..HOLD UP! I maybe missing a blessing in this one. 🙂 Maybe I won’t rush Roger to buy a new ride from the DWI Police auction just yet.

I wish that I could say that I make time to exercise, but I don't. So I get a little help from HerbaLife. (I'll choose my on GMO's thank you)

yourself?” If so, you ‘ll have to tell me how it is, because I can’t relate to that, myself. I am the tightest mother of 9  that I’ve ever seen. Thanks to Herbalife,  🙂  and Earth Fare I’m able to maintain, I really have to exercise more though.

Holy Cow, from EarthFare

4. Cirque Du Soleil Quidam is coming to CHARLOTTE!  I can’t wait! They have a fantastic buzz going around on the net that it’s the show to see. I can’t wait to discover it myself. I am stilling looking for a winner for the family four pack. To get them, all you have to do is comment in this post, pretend you’re a contortionist & take the picture, then share your it on our facebook page!Quidam_Charlotte_300x250_date

Friday Four: Review: DRAGONS (Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus)

The Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey DRAGON circus was amazing!  It was everything the media said that it would be and more!
The kids and I went to the circus last night. What a treat!arttrider
The night started with a introduction, question and answer animal clinic. We got a chance to see a few of the animals and their trainers. I thought it was great timing for the kids to maximize what we have been covering this week in home school. One question in particular that I found to be of most interest was how do you control them? The Russian trainer said “with food!” We could clearly see that, as after every single trick, the animals directed himself toward the trainers waist purse or hand for a reward.Cool right?
After that, we went straight into the pre show.  It was almost like a carnival. There was a drawing elephant, jugglers, and even brightly colored clowns walking around saying hello and welcome. We even got to play dress up in the clowns mobile closet. clowns girl walk
After a few amazing stunts, it was time to start the show! We watched them summon the dragons with acts of strength, couragewisdom and heart ( which happens to be traits required to summon the dragon.)
The frenzied motorcycle Globe of Steel was one of my most favorite moments. They had 8 bikers in the globe at one time.  It seemed impossible. But they did it and I watched it with my own eyes!     My older daughter thought the first roar the tiger made toward the tamer was interestingly scary .When he asked if we were scared. I thought to myself, Not really! We were outside the gate, by the time that big Mufasa looking lion got finished nibbling in him, we would be way in the elevator at least.
clown jump
The smaller boys were completely captivated by all of  the daring acts of the troupes, the skillful and graceful trapeze artist and the thrill riding on the tightrope.
Something else that was nice to see were the new animals they brought along. There was a lama, a few donkeys and the cutest ponies. It was the best ever- not your ordinary circus show at all.
Act after act ….was beauty and majestic! As for the ending….. I won’t ruin it for you, but know that it was pretty big. The crowd was screaming in joy and you’ll see why- trust me! So, go ahead and get your tickets. Thinking about the crowd and seating last night it appeared to be a sell out show.
dragon riders
Here are my top four reasons to go watch the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey DRAGONS show:
1. This year, the cats and dogs stole the show!
2. The live music was incredible.
3. The circus included interactive exercising during the pre show and engaged so many young kids to join in.
4. Parents get 190 minutes (give or take) to unwine. The kids will be well entertained.
Remember that you get  HALF OFF kids tickets to the show by using the promocode KIDS at Ticketmaster online or by calling 1-800-745-3000 (Note: ticket offer is not valid on Circus Celebrity, Front Row, or VIP seating. Till next time, QC Supermom

Wednesday WOW!: Disney on Ice “Worlds of Fantasy” – Review

Charlotte NC, Disney on Ice “Worlds of Fantasy” – Review

We had another great family event in the Queen City. Last night, Disney On Ice “Worlds of Fantasy” premiered at the Time Warner Cable Coliseum. It was unbelievably packed and everyone was just as excited as my children were! We seen some of the most amazing costumes ever from the tiniest of spectators!  It’s things like that I like to see. How others prepare and enjoy themselves to attend live shows . Did they like Disney as much as my kids & I do. Just looking at the little smiles and big, bright, souvenir hibiscus, plastic, flower hats in the lobby – BEFORE the show, I’d say YES.  Everyone was totally ready for what was about to happen live…… (Even the ones that came in representing Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness as I did).

The World’s of Fantasy tour featured Car’s, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Tinkerbell and her fairy friends. I was really curious to see how they would portray the cars show on ice, but confident that we wouldn’t be disappointed. The best hint I can give is to just think of it as a intense highlight of old favorites, while giving everyone a sneak peak of a new Disney movie called Tinker Bell.   (We’re sold- I think we’ll watch it)

Minnie and Mickey started the tour in a shiny red car that careens around the rink, much to the delight and awe of the young crowd. When the car breaks down, rusty old Mater shows up to tow it, joined by the lovely-in-blue Sally and some of her friends, sporting high-gloss paint, tail fins and white-walled tires. It was amazing to see the cars looking just as they do in the movie but on ice ya’ll!!

Next on stage was The Little Mermaid. The music and colors were fun, bright and just great. And that  Barbie…..she’s still fly after all these years!

I’ll tell you something else. It was jammed packed with learning moments.  It covered self acceptance, team work, loyalty, sweet friendships  and even betrayal. At some point when Andy had to give up the toys I was fast to use it as a learning opportunity for my 3 and 5 year old.  The simple  minute skit help explain to them at least three lessons:

1. It’s great to share your things with others if you no longer need them.

2. It’s smart to take good care of your toys, otherwise they will collect all of their parts back together & pull your toes once you fall asleep.

3. As people get older, they change friends as they move from preschool, up through high school to college and beyond. Some are like silver and others are like gold. Mom will always be there no matter what!

The end of the show took place in Pixie Hallow with Tinkerbell and her Fairy Friends. It was so fun seeing the fairies take center stage and the plot line was really fun. I can say out of all the Disney on Ice shows we’ve seen, nearly faultless ice skating and all it was fantastic! It was filled with tremendous feats of skill and talent, excellent choreography, strong plot, costumes just out of this world. A first class production.  This show really offers something very special for everyone in the family.

I took my 13, 12, 5,3,2, and 4month old. The 4 month old did well. He slept through most of it. When he was awake, he did just fine watching all the wonderful excitement that he could handle.  The little green army men seemed to be his favorite part.

Here are my tips for taking a nearly three-year-old:

  • Take their favorite toy (as long as it’s not too big!) or dress them up. It makes a great conversation piece when they get older.
  • Try and make sure their view isn’t blocked as best that you can.  The ushers at Time Warner Cable are very attentive to everyone’s needs, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
  • Talk to them throughout the show about what’s happening. It’s just another way to maximize their learning time. (Yes, I homeschool)
  • Take a sweater! It’s Disney On Ice…..burrrrr!……ice = cold! 🙂
  • Take them for bathroom/potty break at intermission and of course before it begins!
  • Feed them before you leave out for the show, That stuff is EXPENSIVE.
  • Above all, let them be kids. Watch them jump, sing (The Circle of Life”, “Be Prepared”, “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” to name a few) & wiggle!

Now, how do I get this pixy dust out of my eyes? 🙂

Friday4: Review-Disney On Ice-Dare To Dream

Another Disney show, that delivered on their promise! The kids loved it. Eaim left us to hang with his buddy, but every time I looked back at him, he was munching, jumping and smiling! Without a doubt Disney is in the business of bringing magic to life. Here’s my review.

This live show featured scenes from Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, and Cinderella. My 2 yr old marveled at the captivating action   of the characters taking to the ice. A memory I will never forget it!

Mickey and his friends, including Tiana, Cinderella and Rapunzel were there to celebrate the magic of wishes coming true. The show opens in New Orleans where we see Tiana sharing her wishes of opening her own restaurant. The story follows her adventures of turning into a frog and finding true love.

Next we see the story of Cinderella. After getting a chance to go to the ball, in a beautiful horse drawn carriage, which looked really amazing on the ice, she runs home as the clock strikes midnight. Next, Flynn rider hangs from the ceiling while trying to steal the crown.

Oh no, next we find Rapunzel locked in her tower trying to convince her mother to let her leave. We follow through the story and get to the part with Rapunzel finally seeing the floating lanterns. The arena was lit up with lanterns hanging down over the ice, and it looked AMAZING!

At the end of the show all the Disney princesses came out for the spectacular finale. LOVED IT!

Beautiful costumes, amazing skaters and and all around great show for the whole family!

On my previous post, I had a picture with Rapunzal holding a pot over a dudes head. I didn’t know why she was doing that, but that was totally an attention getter. Come to find out. She was ———-(you have to go to the show to find out- lol) Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream” last show is Sunday. So you don’t want to miss it and there’s still time!

Today, October 6th,2011

Disney On Ice put on their “Dare To Dream”

performance at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

We went to the 7:00 show. Mom, and the rest of

the crew seemed as if they had a great time!

Personally I give the performance tonight two

thumbs up, From the setting, to the hair and make-up all the

way to wardrobe. It was absolutely astonishing!! Exceptional!!

Words couldn’t explain how awesome it was!

My favorite part was when Princess Tianna kissed the frog,

turned into one, and went to the lady to turn her and the prince

back human. The woman was so funny, she reminded me of my mom!!

But the most romantic part was Rapunzel and her prince “Eugene”

(Flynn The Bad Guy) How they got to know each other and gained trust of each other. Overall, Everything was beautifully put together.

Bippity,Bopppity,Bye!!!- “D.” 12 yr old

We all went to Disney On Ice tonight.

I kinda liked it but I also thought that it was too much going on.

It was kinda over the top. I couldn’t keep up. They kept switching

the main characters to different people

“Cassie“11 yr old

I guess you gotta have a balance!
